Good game last night, McLeish stays for now. Although if he fvcks up qualifying for 2020 does he get the boot and then the new man gets a free playoff?

Pots for Euro 2020 qualifying shown below:

UEFA Nations League pot (4): Switzerland*, Portugal*, Netherlands*, England*

Pot 1 (6): Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Poland

Pot 2 (10): Germany, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina*, Ukraine*, Denmark*, Sweden*, Russia, Austria, Wales, Czech Republic

Pot 3 (10): Slovakia, Turkey, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland*, Norway*, Serbia*, Finland*, Bulgaria, Israel

Pot 4 (10): Hungary, Romania, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Cyprus, Estonia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Georgia*

Pot 5 (10): FYR Macedonia*, Kosovo*, Belarus*, Luxembourg, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Gibraltar, Faroe Islands

Pot 6 (5): Latvia, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Malta, San Marino

*denotes they have already secured a play-off place

England will be in a 5 team group (so no team from Pot 6), best draw likely:

England
Czech Republic
Israel
Albania
Gibraltar

Worst Draw

England
Germany
Scotland
Hungary
Macedonia

Though would expect them to safely qualify regardless of the draw

With two qualifiers, you'd have to go some.

so if they have already got a play off place, why are they trying to qualify again? What happens if they lost all 10 games 8-0? Do they still have that play off??

Yes.

Not sure what's so hard to follow - think of it as a well-earned repechage.

On,y one team in each group will qualify through the play offs. So if England finished third in their Euro qualifying group they would have a second chance of qualifying if they win the League of Nations play offs.

If England finish first or second in their Euro qualifying group then they will not take part in the play offs as there will be no need. Their place in the play offs will then be taken by the next highest team in their League of Nations group, ie Spain. What I am unsure about is if Spain have also qualified what happens next. Do Croatia then take part in the play offs? However if they have already qualified too.....

Play-off place goes to the first team that needs it. So if all League A teams qualify then League B teams will take those play-off slots.

If England qualify then then their spot will go to the next best-ranked team in their league. If a play off group does not have four teams to compete, then the remaining places are allocated to the next best ranked teams from the other leagues that haven't qualified.

I was under the impression that the winners of the Group A playoff (aka Nations League final) don't actually get a Euro 2020 place?

TBF to UEFA this Nations League has actually been pretty good, but it seems very few people understand the qualification/promotion rules. Chap on Saturday at Junior#2's football match was insistent that England would qualify automatically for Euro2020 as long as they defeated Croatia the following day.

The winners of ALL FOUR Nations League group play offs get a Euro place.

Just to clarify qualification process, the link below sets out the whole deal

The play-offs yes - these take place in March 2020 post qualifying. The finals in June are a separate competition and have no link to Euro 2020 at all.

Nations League Finals (which England are already in) =/= UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying play-offs (which England will be in should they fail to qualify normally).

From what I saw Scotland played some good stuff.
At times Forrest looked a bit like King Kenny-only "a bit "obvs but he has come alive for them of late.

Yes but my understanding is that the Group A play offs take place next June before the Euro qualifiers finish in November. The play offs in the other groups take place in Match 2020 after the Euro qualifiers have been completed.

Nothing scheduled in June from what I can see. All playoffs are scheduled to begin on 26th March 2020.

Yeah, next June is the Nation's League finals, then in March all 4 groups playoff for the last 4 euro places, although the next confusing bit is how low down in group A do you go if the 4 group winners have already qualified?
