stealthpapes I'm fairly sure I could, off the top of my head, name every runner up from about 1986 to say 2006. Anyhoo.

without even thinking I can narrow it down
to mostly....

80's Liverpool or Everton
92-04 Man Utd or Arsenal

Late 80s, Everton didn't finish second once after 1986.

Mid-90s - Arsenal were very much a cup team

A small part of my brain is telling me that Villa and Norwich were both runners-up at one point, and also that Palace were thereabouts one year too. How wrong am I?

Edit: had a look myself.

Villa were runners-up in the first Premier League season, as well as 89-90, just two seasons after promotion from (then) Division 2.

Norwich came a surprise 3rd in 92-93, these were the days of Robins, Bowen, Fox, Ullathorne, Butterworth, Sutton and Goss. The following year they famously beat Bayern over two legs in the UEFA Cup.

Palace came 3rd in 90-91, on the back of Wright, Bright, Geoff Thomas, and of course our Pards.

89 to 00 is ... Liverpool - Villa - Liverpool - United - Villa - Blackburn - United - Newcastle - Newcastle - United - Arsenal - Arsenal

I think 01-02 is when I begin to go cross-eyed and then - AND THIS NOT A DIG AT KES - after Chelsea and, later, City got rich, I have no idea.

Think it was pretty much arsenal and man united.

Leeds I seem to remember were quite good once and maybe 2nd or 3rd?

Think the highest they finished was third but sure that by 01-02 they were already on the way down.

From 1997/98 to 2001/02 They went 5,4,3,4 and 5. They came 18th the season after.

Very entertaining game .
A win-win game for Liverpool.
Man Utd losing would have meant Liverpool being just 4 points behind them with City up next for them.
Arsenal losing means that Liverpool leapfrog them into the top 4.

As for the game-clinical finishing by Man Utd taking their very few chances whereas Arsenal made loads of chances but with poor finishing and dogged defending by Man Utd.
Pogba?
Even Mourinho won't be able to defend his dreadful tackle.

I missed the tackle (bathroom break) but have seen the replays, not sure

Can't really argue with a red but think Pogba is a little unlucky...defo not expecting Bellerin to challenge in that manner

United got battered in a game they won 3-1

i didn't think the tackle was that bad in all honesty. it was more a unfortunate
incident rather than outright malicious. still a red card by the letter of the law though. has mignolet got a retrospective red for his challenge at stoke? oh no,
he can't because the ref dealt with it at the time, despite getting the decision clearly wrong.. *sighs

Yeah had to be a red, but it wasn't a 'dreadful' tackle per se

Holy shit, I knew it was a while, but 12 fcuking years?

For the first time since 2005, a Manchester United match in the FA Cup will not be shown live on television.
The Red Devils, who were last passed over by broadcasters as one of the televised picks when they met Exeter at Old Trafford 12 years ago, play Derby County at home.
