Football on BBC

by SpaceCruiser » 21 Dec 2011 18:26

I see that the BBC is still doing Match of the Day over the Xmas period, but I can't see any mention of the Football League Show being shown on Boxing Day or at any time over the New Year.

Why is this? A bit shocking of them to ignore the rest of the league.

Saying that, whenever there is a few Premier League games being played in midweek, or even a couple, the Match of the Day is on. But when there is a full program of football league games in midweek, they don't bother. Why not? :|

Because there's not time or resources, because of the unique way the BBC is funded, to edit down 36 matches which end at just before 10 pm into a coherent programme in time.

And yet they have time to concentrate their resources on the Premier League games?

I don't understand this, but it's an obvious bias towards them and to hell to the people who want to watch that football league show rather than the match of the day,

Ridiculous. A waste of my TV licence if I can't get this.

Yes, hell to them displaying bias towards a league that costs millions more to air!

Just watch the goals on the BBC website........something you can't do with the Premiership

Also, what about before there was even a show showing the championship goals on TV. I remember having to wait for the FA Cup to come around so I could watch my beloved blue and white on TV.

A maximum of 10 matches, all being transmitted live at Broadcast quality >>>>>>>> up to 36 games, including those at places like Rochdale and Hartlepool where they have one camera and then have to download the video from it over a single ISDN/DSL line. And if just one match doesn't make it in time the whole programme is derided.

So how come they manage to get the Football League show out normally on a Saturday night?

But on Boxing day when the games kick off at either 1pm or 3pm, they cant?

Probably because the BBC consider there to be better things to show on Boxing Day than a few football games that don't matter to the wider audience.

Double time and a day off in lieu for working on a public holiday for all those editors - just so that a few people can see the goals in the game between Hereford and Port Vale. When in reality the only people interested in seeing them were probably there.

My original post was answering the point about midweek matches rather than the Boxing Day ones.

It is but i was just pointing out to Spacey that even when the goals aren't on TV they will still be available on the BBC Website - something you cant find for Premiership games (for example tonights game between Spurs and Chelsea wont be anywhere on the BBC)
