Qatar 2022 set for November/December

by Deadlock » 24 Feb 2015 10:27

The world cup no-one wants is now going to be held at the worst possible time. It would be nice if all the countries that lost to Qatar's bid now took FIFA to court, but I doubt that will change anything. Furthermore, I consider that Blatter is a oxf*rd.

Take a step back.

FIFA's remit is to spread football to the four corners of the globe - not to pander to the rich clubs in Europe.

I have no issue with a World Cup bidder stating that they would require to have the tournament staged in November/December.

This, obviously hasn't happened.

I've said before that the bid package must have said that they were bidding for a summer world cup and as they are unable to fulfill this then they lose the right to host, same as if they didn't build the stadiums they said they would. Unfortunately FIFA is so bent there is no way this would get challnged from within. As has been suggested the big leagues should boycott it, which will cost FIFA cash and that's all they care about

Completely agreed. Apparently, according to someone I heard on the radio this morning, UEFA have "little appetite" to do this.

Why is that the worst possible time? If you are going to have a world cup there then it seems a pretty sensible time to do it

Great, so take it back to the USA, or back to Africa, or to India, where football is genunely emerging. Qatar isn't even a location as such. No disrespect to Qatarians, but the World Cup is being 'spread' to a purpose built football village in the middle of the desert.

Complete and utter total joke and no-one in Europe has the bottle to stand up to FIFA and take their money elsewhere (they could easily walk away en masse and then FIFA would be completely stuffed).

Firstly the bidding process was flawed and even if it was all honest and above board there was no mention of the fact that the finals would have to be played in Nov/Dec 2022 which is likely to have had an impact on any voting. Secondly there are question marks over the building of stadia and the conditions for the people undertaking that work. Lastly how on earth can a country the size of Qatar even contemplate a 32 team finals, even if it is logistically possible, it'd be like Jamaica or Cyprus doing it on its own.

Next questions are what happens to the league seasons, are they all to be suspended for 6/8 weeks or do we end up with the farce that hits rugby sometimes where teams carry on playing as normal but without half their squads. If it is suspended then that is likely to mean starting in July and ending in June and lastly what happens to all the international qualifiers for the 2024 EC, they'll all have to be rejigged and moved about as well.

It looks like the plan is to cram more games into a day to reduce the length of the tournament. So we'll probably end up having 6 group games on tv a day or something similar.

For ages now other countries have had to suspend their seasons for the WC to take place, dont see why we are so precious that we cant do it? I quite like the idea of summer games being played here while we jig things around for a season or 3 to accomodate it. Saturday 8:00pm kick offs so the heat of the day is gone. Sweet.

That's not a bad shout tbf. We all like the odd floodlit match on a clear and nippy winter's night, but I'm kinda bored of them now.
In for evening games in my shorts.

Because 75% of the WC players play in Europe?

Then it is about time those 25% stopped having to halt their leagues to play in the world cup for once

It just highlights the farce of the bidding process.
- Technical compliance - we have no stadia but we'll build loads FAIL
- Infrastructure - we have no hotels but we'll build loads FAIL
- Environment - it's hot so we'll make our stadia air conditioned FAIL
- Location - we're in the middle east and we're loaded - PASS forget everything else QATAR it is.

If a player dies out on the pitch during the 2022 Finals due to the heat, would FIFA dare say that nobody could have predicted such a thing happening?

USA 94 had way hotter temperatures than Qatar does in Nov/Dec
