Glenn Hoddle doing the England games is almost making me wish Andy Townsend was brought back.

I quite like Hoddle, clearly knows his stuff, even if his delivery is a bit whiny.

He's a weird one, I spend half the time thinking 'yeah, good insight Glenn', half the rest thinking 'could you say anything more obvious' and then lastly 'what total bullshit, you out of touch plank'.

Might have been said but I surely can't be the only one not mourning John Motson's retirement? 'Oooohhhh, it's a goal! They have scored!' His commentary has about as much nuance as a potato.

probably true, but for my generation his voice will always reson8. Ditto David Coleman, Brian Moore, Bill Mclaren, Richie Benaud etc.

When you think about it, who needs comment8ors on telly?

Agreed LUX... he's not the best commentator by any stretch of the imagination, but his voice is iconic in football. Takes me right back.

Is ITV's coverage part of the reason why so many England fans are switching off ? Mark Pougtach aside, it's f**kin dreadful. Second game in a row I switched over to watch the jocks.

yes, I realise England are sh!te also

Motsons always been shit, can't stand his voice. Benaud on the other hand, was always pure class.

It's been about 5-10 years overdue.

I often think commentators forget that we're there to be entertained....not listen to some miserable pcunt criticising everything

Sky should ban all Scouse commentators. I dont mind Jamie carragher doing post match analysis but in the middle of a game his voice just does my head in.

Where do they come up with some of these questions they ask players after the game. Some of them are ridiculous.

"So Andy Carroll, you have steam coming off of you. How hard did you work today?"

"So Joe Hart, the fans were really loud today, did they get behind the team?"

"So David Moyes, you scored at a really important time just before half time today. Did you think that was a key moment in the game?"

I always thought Brian Moore was fcuking shite. Apart from his head looking uncannily like London Planetarium, his commentating style appeared to be spout bollocks in an authoritative tone.

Arguably our finest moment at the time, Adie Williams rises to head a last minute winner to secure our highest ever league position and, evoking the spirit, gravitas and timing of Kenneth Wolstenholme, Brain Moore exclaims "There's madcats on the pitch, aren't they stupid, but this wasn't stupid....."

+1 for the lack of Brian Moore love. Him and Motson are/were utterly overrated. Moore always seemed to crow about the big teams. Never liked him.

That said, Peter Drury makes me want to rise up and kill. I actually hate the man.
