U20 World Cup

by Stranded » 06 Jun 2017 08:37

Doubt anyone has been following this too closely but England have made the semi-finals of the U20 WC for the first time since the 1993 version.

Play Italy for the right to face Uruguay/Venezuela in the final.

Good to see some young England players doing well before their careers as PL bench warmers/Championship players really takes off.

I'd forgotten about it after the first two games as it happens, after they started with a really good 3-0 over Argentina, so will try and remember to watch the Semi.

This is a tournament that FIFA and, I think, the rest of the world take a lot more seriously than us too (at least they have in the past) but it's part of a busy summer for the England teams of that age. Not only is this on but there's also the Toulon Tournament, which is technically an England U20 side too but made up of much younger lads, where we have won every game and are also in the semi-finals, and then the U21 Euro's start in Poland next week too.

As usual these days we seem to be doing pretty well at age group tournaments but just can't get these players to make the step up into first team football and international football in the same way (obviously its a big jump).

That Solanke kid looks like a real talent, fair play to Liverpool.

England were outstanding today. Completely outplayed Italy. It was incredible to see England so strong against an Italian side.

Thanks to England I won back the £20 that I lost on Uruguay when Venezuela scored a last minute equalizer against them.

My "think he means" was heavily laden with sarcasm.

Whoosh your mum.

The other U20 team (made up of largely 17 and 18 year olds - as with most of the squads to be fair) won the Toulon Tournament today too.

I guess the older players are going out to Poland for the U21 Euros.

This is the first England team to play in a World Cup final at any level since 1966

Not a great record is it?!
