WoodleyRoyal
Silver Fox
WoodleyRoyal one of the points and its the only point I agree with in his rant, and he hasn't done himself any favours in how he has approached it is, is she there just cos she's a woman? Are Sky and BT just trying to be seen as politically correct? Is she there just as a token gesture, or is she there on merit? I think its the former.

You might be as stupid as Leon Knight then

so you are saying she is there on merit, she is the best pundit they could find to express her views on an England game? and it has nothing to do with her being a woman or sky trying to hit a quota...

As OMA has pointed out, the viewing landscape has changed, a lot more young females watch and play football. That's a good thing right?

Really can't see why there's a particular issue.

Or would you still like TV presenters to wear suits, smoke a pipe and speak BBC RP?

Besides if the standard you're aspiring to is Redknapp, Phil Thompson, Merson then I think my mother could do it. And she's dead.

Meh, I'm happy with my views on this, and the best argument that can be mustered so far is because more women watch football now that means women need to be pundits. Strange concept. Next, you'll be telling me the only reason homes under the hammer has Dion Dublin as a presenter is because more black people are becoming property investors...

Perhaps before asking for reasons why women should be pundits, you should first give reasons why they shouldn't be?
I mean, you didn't actually give any, you just quoted Leon Knight, and he didn't really give any either.
The closest he got was saying that Alex Scott was 'scratching her head' whilst Carragher and Redknapp, who played at a high level, spoke, which as I highlighted, is a pretty moronic comparison, since Alex Scott has 140 England caps.

I would imagine Alex Scott got the job because she knows a bit about football and can string a sentence together in front of a camera without sounding like a complete moron.

Its the same as in any workplace, and complaining that there are not enough women in senior positions in companies. Judging by my own experiences in the workplace 90% of women are not in senior positions because they are not good enough, not because of sexism.

No, she's there because she's an articulate footballer with an interest in punditry who has played to the highest level in her sport (more successfully than most of her male counterparts).

No. The best argument that can be mustered so far is that an articulate elite female athlete in the specialist sport in question was given a break in punditry where women are woefully under represented largely due to archaic misogynist views setting back women's football decades and actively striving to keep women as outsiders, having excelled in the role during the world cup only for a retarded misogynist dinosaur to go on a retard misogynist rant about how women shouldn't be pundits.

And you agree with that heap of shit bullshit. Because whether you are prepared to accept or acknowledge it, you must be either a retard and / or a misogynist.

Old Man Andrews he has very little respect for women in every day life as well as those involved in TV work.
You're 100% wrong! He makes it quite clear....
Leon Knight AND I AINT SEXIST AT ALL but...
:D :D :D :D :D

As several have said, she doesn’t do any worse than the male pundits and we can’t claim all the male pundits are great… Robbie Savage!

I have met Alex and she is a lovely girl. I wish her well, but at the moment, it still seems a little odd seeing her and other female pundits. It will take getting used to, but I suspect that in a year or two, we’ll think no less of them than any male pundit.

I am less keen on seeing Sue Smith on the EFL show on Quest, but the same would be true if it were Alan Shearer or Danny Murphy. On that show (Including when it was on C5), they tend to go with guys who were better known for being in the EFL, rather than top internationals and I kinda prefer it

I am an ice hockey fan and over the past year have regularly tuned in to a daily show in N.America called NHL On the Fly. It’s kinda like the NHL equivalent of MoTD. There are 3 presenters rotating and they are all female. They are all pure eye candy, which I think is intentional and more acceptable over there, but most of all, they are all really good at what they do. They are very knowledgeable, able to keep talking at high speed (Typical N.American style sports reporting), ask all the right questions, give all the right opinions… Far better than ANY of our presenters or pundits, male or female! I think we could learn something, with regard to the training of our guys!

As long as whoever is contributing and making good case for their opinion and you can criticise them when they don't who the hell cares what sex, colour, size, etc. anyone is.

Overall though don't most people just ignore pundits, tune in at kick off. Go and get something to eat at half time then switch off at the final whistle?

The only one that matters is the one that gets attached to the commentary team as you can't really avoid their "insights".

Ten years after registering, you make your first post, curiously after recent users have been banned.

Exactly this for me. I quite enjoy Gary Neville, but tend to just switch on just before kick off. These pundits only state the obvious.

Presumably, you are suggesting that someone has been banned and now posts under this account. I can assure you this is not the case.

Yes, this is my first post. It is also my first visit for a very long time. I have not been a lurker! This of course means I do not know other members (Unless I know them from elsewhere... or maybe in person), so don't expect me to immediately take a contrary view to certain posters, that may not have got on well with whoever you think I am

In truth, football is my SECOND sport. Although I enjoy it, Ice Hockey is my big love. I am a season ticket holder at Bracknell. I only go to a few Royals games per season (Last game was Bristol City at the start of November), though I am a season ticket holder with Reading Women and watch them home and away. I will be at the Continental Cup Quarter Final tonight
