Coppelled Streets Still very sad. The thought that they were like us just supporting the club they loved and they didn't come home.
The season we won promotion was the first time I'd been to Hillsborough and it felt strange sitting in that end of the ground. The thought of those that died was very much in my mind. Remembering people being crushed on the concrete we were standing on, jumping to the lower tier etc.

RIP

It was the first time I'd been also, however we were in the upper tier. You could see the tunnel and how obvious it is to assume that the tunnel was the entrance to all of lower tier not just the centre. The signs to left and right hand tiers are there, but you could easily miss them

AF1 And so the thread takes an inevitable turn for the worse.....

I'm always amazed that football fans can be quite so pcunty about Hillsborough, there but for the grace of god etc..

I'd imagine that the signs were changed/added after the disaster too.

I'm not reading all that

You're being harsh there.

Why am I being harsh?
It’s a long list and I don’t have the time or energy to read through it.
I’d probably put a limit on around 39 when it comes to reading a list.

That's weird, did anyone get an apology email from Football Fans Census cos they sent an email earlier about standing. Why would Reading fans be offended? :|

p.s. aggro, I was making a joke.

cmonurz Funny isn’t, how anonymously people will act in a way so different to how (one assumes) they act in real life. And also how our experience or otherwise of terrible events shapes our feelings towards them. TBM wants some jokes about Hillsborough; but if his brother had been crushed to death that day, would he want to share in the ‘hilarity’?

Pitiful ‘comedy’ on this thread.

Im guessing you didn't read the thread on AE yesterday then

cmonurz Had no idea so many kids were killed, tbh.

The demographic of football crowds has changed hugely in the last 20 years. The proportion of teenagers and 20-somethings is far lower, whilst the proportion of 40-somethings is increasing rapidly.

I'd love to see the average age of matchday crowd today compared to the 70s and 80s.

I don't have all the figures, but certainly the average age of a Premier League Season Ticket Holder is 43.

They weren't there at all in 1989.

However, at the 1988 semi-final two stewards were placed at the entrance to the tunnel directing fans to the side pens when the central pens became full. They were absent too in 1989. Just one of a string of organisational failures that led to the disaster.

Spacey/TBM, were you at Elm Park for the Wigan game the following week? Possibly one of the most emotional games of football I've ever been too - the minutes silence before the start was extraordinary. I remember a few people crying on the Southbank. I suspect your attitudes would be different had you attended.

one of the 96 was Steve Gerrard's cousin.

does anyone have the link to the poem written about Hillsbrough. A pretty harrowing poem about a 14 year old kid who never made it back on to the bus

Indeed, a day I hold very dear and personal to me.

Who can forget the hilarious chanting of Reading fans to Bradford City..."What's it like to burn to death?"
