2009 Champions League Final

by readingbedding » 07 May 2009 00:07

Now we are left with the two best sides in Europe.
I fancy Manchester United...but will Messi actually play well against a Prem side, let alone score?

Two best sides in the world, perhaps.

I'll take Barcelona to win by the odd goal in 5, Messi to get a couple.

Barca will resort to long balls and diving to hold on till penalties but I think United will have it wrapped long before that.

I'm a big fan of Barca and they way they play football but its Man Utd all the way. Barca are without Alves, Abidal and probably Marquez, I can't see a (probable) back four of Puyol, Toure, Pique & Sylvinho keeping Utd out.

On the flip side I think a Fletcher-less Man Utd will lack a lot of bite. I can see Anderson and Park starting this one...

Would like United to win this as they'll only be 1 European Cup behind Liverpool then......and fingers crossed Utd win the league again to equal Liverpools league titles.

Suspect that Man United will absolutely cruise this. Their key players have hit form to add strength to their already winning mentality this season. Their only slight weakness is in goal.

Yet to see Messi do much on the big stage and he’ll be up against one of the best full-backs in the world. Apart from the fantastic Iniesta and Xavi, not overly impressed with Barca. The fact they’re cruising to the title, suggests that La Liga has even less strength in depth than the PL.

United to win by two clear goals.

Agreed. As much as I want Barca to win, I can't see past United with Barca's makeshift defence. Hopefully we'll get plenty of goals whatever happens.

I think Manchester United win.
Perhaps on their way to be the last team since Bryan Munich to do something tremendous.

Manchester United, and by more than a single goal.

The Barcelona defence don't stand a chance at holding at a side that will actually attack.

Obsessed and a massive inferiority complex-sad.
I hope the game is a decent match and may the best team win.

Champions League Final

by Compo's Hat » 27 May 2009 10:40

Should be a fascinating contest tonight and good to see domestic title winners playing each other from arguably the two strongest divisions in the world. The attacking of the Spanish champions against the counter attacking brilliance of the English champions.

I think the key will be on the replacements for those who would have made the final and weather they step up to the big occasion. If O’Shea finds himself up against Messi if he swaps wings then he could be in for a troublesome night and the same could be said about Barca’s defenders coming in. If Rooney ends up playing on the left then Ronaldo may get the nod up front and could make it just as fun for the likes of Cáceres coming in at the back.

For me it’s United to win it by the odd goal in three.

I have a feeling Utd will walk this one quite easily - can see there being maybe 3 or 4 goals for them.
