I liked Monaco's reasoning behind the fee. Mendy is better than Walker so they'll have to pay more than £40m.

That is some spending by City. They'll HAVE to win something this year, otherwise Pep could be out on his ear....big pressure.

Pep to be gone by Christmas. Biggest fraud since Adkins.

Weird, isn't it. You would've thought Leicester's success shows you don't have to throw silly sums around to win trophies, and that it's about building a team with intelligence over time.

Same with Tottenham. Excellent side with a strong philosophy built over a few seasons, I think it's a matter of time until they win something. And they don't pay anyone over £100k a week, transfer record - £30m.

Is that true? Kane? Eriksen?

Basic wage, I don't think so. Probably over £100k with bonuses. They had an £80,000 wage cap until last year when they signed up their major players with new deals.

Still, nothing compared to the other top 4 clubs.

Wolves sign Jota.

Cracking player IMO. They're really going for it...

Oh, hang on, it's a different Jota

I think the Wolves fans in the comments think it's the one from Brentford

They're doing well don't get me wrong but I still wouldn't call them one of the top 4 clubs in the country (top 4 finishes obviously count towards a rising repuatation) so it shouldn't really be a surprise that their wages are lower..

Hernandez is a cracking signing - I'd go as far as saying I'm surprised he's 'only' managed to sign for West Ham, he isn't out of place in the CL.

Uh, surely by definition if you finish in the top four, you're a top four club?

Not to mention twice in the last two seasons, as well.

Interested to know other's thoughts on this.

I think reputation and more importantly trophies come into it.
Utd, City, Chelsea and Arsenal are all bugger clubs and (God forgive me) Liverpool are probably still above them in the pecking order.

An 18 year old with one proper season behind him.

I refuse to go over 100m even on football manager and I steal all my money from rival clubs.

That's a joke right.

Utterly ridiculous. And you wonder why L1 and L2 teams are going bust.

Boycott football !!!

All of this has come from the president of Lyon talking to a journalist about why a sale from them to RM is not happening. Spanish media now going nuts claiming it a done deal and varying the price from €110M to €180M

It has to bottom out soon and crash. Before long we will probably see a 1billion pound player.

Crazy.

Lionel Messi, arguably one of the greatest players of all time, still apparently at or near his peak, and five-time Ballon D'Or winner. You wouldn't have bat an eyelid if Messi moved to Real/PSG for that amount, a couple of months ago, since when it has gone batshit crazy.

Kylian Mbappe, talented though he is, has played 58 first-team games, and one full season. This is total madness.

For this to be sustainable the TV money has to keep going up. What happens if Sky/BT et al finally refuse to pay the rising fees for broadcast rights?

It could all implode
