double d
Da Bells Da Bells Well done Maidenhead and Tarpey last nigght - 4-1 winners away from home and Tarpey with all four.

Looking forward to their home game against Ebsfleet on Saturday. Get a win their and the'll start to think they can stay up this season or even better.

.cant see tarpey being there for much longer. I have it on good grounds that he is going to Charlton soon

Everyone being says he's off for over a year now, but two transfer windows have passed with only one offer (Coventry) by all accounts, which he turned down.

You don't go chucking in your job when you've got a young family for a one year contract in L2 for no extra money.

Yeah some players don't want to take the risk of a short term career for not much money when they can keep their day job and have a nice earner on the side. I remember Bennett at Gosport turning down offers to play higher for this very reason.

At 29 is it worth the risk for 2 maybe 3 years with no idea if he's going to make the grade?

This^

Unless a Champ club came in and offer Championship wages, think he's be crazy to go. My old man played rugby at the time the game turned pro - was offered a number of contracts at decent level clubs but most were only 1 or 2 years as he was in his 30s. They were offering more money but at his age he didn't see the point as he was working somewhere he liked and was getting "expenses" from his rugby which gave him some extra beer tokens.

If he'd been 5 years younger and not had 2 kids, he would have jumped at the chance no doubt but not in those circumstances.

... soz all - struggling to find time to keep reviews up to date - new job etc - and get out to games midweek  so here goes with some selected scores ....

In the Vanarama National as well as the Magpies big win at Fylde; the Sh!ts picked up a point at Maidstone to stay clear of Dover & Sutton. Bromley bt Orient 6-1 and Woking edged out Eastleigh 2-1. Dover won 2-1 at Halifax- all three goals in the game coming after the 87' - the winner on 95'

In the Northern section Brackley picke dup another 3 points with a 1-0 win at home to Nuneaton.

In the National South on Tue Hungerford lost 0-2 at Oxford City ; Wealdstone were beaten 0-1 by visitors Havant & W.the night before. St Albans lead the table with 4 wins from 4.

In the SLP Chesham fell 1-3 at home to Banbury; Sluff bashed Gosport 5-1 away Farnborough lost 0-1 at home to new boys Royston on Wed. Basingstoke came back form Dorset with nothing going down 0-1 at Dorchester on Monday evening.

In One East - formerly Central at the start of the week I watched Hartley Wintney snatch a late but deserved winner at Beaconsfield.
Fleet and Chalfont/b] shared the points - [b]Marlow bt HandY 3-1 at Oak Tree Rd whilst promoted Thame were humbled 0-3 at the ASM by AFC Rushden & Diamonds
One South & West Diddy romped 4-2 past Wimborne; Nor Lye drew 1-1 at Supermarine & Winchester City went down 0-1 at home to Kidlington.

Still very early days in the CCL with plenty of sides engaged in Cup replay action the week before -however in the Premier this week there were wins for Westfield & Camberley; Godalming were held at home by promoted Balham - Chertsey smashed 7 past Epsom & Ewell, who I think I read have lost most of their squad to Sutton Common Rovers who won impressively at Knaphill.
I nipped down to Godalming on Wed night and saw them prgress to the next round of the FA Cup with an untroubled 3-0 coast past Newport IoW.

Big wins a plenty in the Hellenic for Highworth 4-0 at Tuffley and Longlevens 6-2 at Fairford. Thatcham bt Woodley 3-0. At Scours on Monday, Flackwell scraped past 10 man (as usual  ) Highmoor 3-2. These winners make up the top four with Bracknell not in action sat back in 5th.
Ascot bt Burnham 2-0 and Wantage were beaten 1-0 at Brimscomb.

Hungerford lose 3-2 at Welling, Bobby Wilkinson resigns allegedly at H/T stating he'd been considering it for a couple of weeks. Very strange although it would appear to tie in with a change of management structure at the club. Suspect when he finds another club he'll take some of the better players with him.

double d R and D from old league 2? Wondered what has happened to them over the years. I suspect like Hereford they will back in the league soon

It would take quite a bit to achieve that. They currently groundshare at Rushden & Higham United, and the ground doesn't really have much beyond one small stand.

Nene Park got bulldozed a couple of months ago, along with the small ground that used to be their ground before moving to Nene Park. The reformed club didn't ever play at either ground.

Until this season they were actually sharing at Wellingborough, after a season at Rounds Town. Their club site also claims that they only beat Wellingborough 4-0, not 7-0, so not quite as embarrassing for the hosts.

...you'll have the QUOTE police after you ! :? ..... TWICE

... and yes more or less the same club- albeit one 'o they phoenix-AFC-palavers re-formed/re-born in 12-13 - have been nomadic for some years, as well as hopping back and forth North and South in the Pyramid. Were Northern Premier last season and have come back to the Southern this. :o .

Forebears bowed out of the league - following their' Harry Bunter' days - in 2011 after 5 years as a League club - incl 3 at the 3rd level. Were formed themselves out of a merger between Rushden and Irthlingborough in the early 90s.

Think their former 'new build' palatial home (Nene Park) was (as above) finally bulldozed earlier this year - Kettering lodged there for a brief spell (one season) but no-one could afford the upkeep nor overcome the 'financial spectres' that haunted the place, once R&D had dissolved. Even Coventry City took sniff and opted to share at Sixfields instead, for a while.

When AFC R&D were playing at Wellingborough  their former 'hosts' yesterday - I went to the delightfully named 'Dog & Duck' ground in the 15-16 season for a B/H game vs Bedford I think.

..... and I suspect it's the FA Site that's the source of the incorrect result - they do have a forte for that  ?

I'm sure I'd read they have plans to re-locate again. They probably are the 'biggest fish' in their division - though Cambridge City might try and dispute that?

Bonzodog Hungerford lose 3-2 at Welling, Bobby Wilkinson resigns allegedly at H/T stating he'd been considering it for a couple of weeks. Very strange although it would appear to tie in with a change of management structure at the club. Suspect when he finds another club he'll take some of the better players with him.

The fact he resigned at HT isn't a surprise. The bloke is a bit of a Tool in my opinion. Will no doubt get another decent role though as his track record on paper is good.

double d .cant see tarpey being there for much longer.

Interview with Dave Tarpey in this weeks NLP (after it finally reached the shops). Says he was offered a contract by Coventry but when he worked it out he'd be worse off financially for the move.

Nice 5-2 win for Windsor at Oxford City Nomads this week on their newly laid 3G pitch, where literally every bounce of the ball saw a mini cloud of black rubber leave the surface.

3-0 up after 10 minutes... we had to pinch ourselves a bit.

I'm not going to get carried away with that however as their keeper was poor and their defence easily outmuscled. (They lost 7-1 on Saturday.)

Fair play to Oxford though, they were another young team whose heads never dropped despite going 5-0 down and kept playing football spraying some good passes around; they had some nice ball players in their ranks and could well improve given time.

Another 3G pitch. They are starting to become a bit of a plague.

I was initially all for the idea, but having seen half a dozen games on the surface now, I don't like them. The ball bounces dead, it doesn't look very nice and I think it gives an unfair home advantage. Not seen the stats to back this up, but teams with them at least appear to have improved their home form. A couple of years ago there were just 2 in the NLS and they filled the 2 promotion spots.

Agreed. They fine for training on, or as an alternative facility but it's just not the same as playing on grass.

I disagree. It makes for a better brand of football as it is far more conducive to passing than lumping.

Some (many) of the away pitches Windsor have played on in recent years have been mud baths in winter and bobbly dust bowls in Autumn / Spring and both result in a pretty shite game where it doesn't pay to try to keep the ball on the deck.
