mx Winchester City are hanging on to a play off position despite some duff results lately. We seem to switch off in the last 10 mins, going from 1 up to 2-1 down inside the last 5 mins against Bristol Manor Farm and conceding a late equaliser against Paulton.

Never mind. Friday is the big one, S*lisbury at home. £5 on the gate with a Reading FC season ticket, if any of you fancy popping down. Similar discount for Saints and Eastleigh fans too.

We've had some big crowds on Friday evenings in the past, so we are pushing this one big time.

There is free parking, but with the wiltshire w@nkers in town, it will be busy. Get the train - the ground is about 15 mins walk from the station. I recommend the Albion and the Hyde Tavern for beer breaks en route. Avoid the Mucky Duck - Greene King - and the King Alfred - thinly disguised Greene King with a guest or two. And there is ale in the clubhouse too.

Presume you mean off the gate rather than on.

Didn't realise Winchester would see Reading as being local enough to warrant an encouragement to visit. Is that offer open at any home game Winchester play or just selected games?

I'd assume mx means that's the cost of admission and not the discount value, as in that's how much it'll cost to pay 'on the gate'.

Winchester is probably something like £8/£10 a game usually.

It's £8 normally, £5 this Friday with a season ticket. That's a one off, rather than a regular offer. Winchester is basically a Saints town (and rightly so) but I do meet other Reading fans here. A few Bournemouth & Pompey too, along with the usual glory hunters and random exiles.

I think the club are just generally trying to get fans of league clubs to give non-League a go.

Burnham 0-2 Windsor.

A very competent and controlled performance from Windsor without ever hitting any particular heights.

5 on the bounce now, and back to Flackwell Heath again in another cup on Saturday.

,,,quite a busy midweek locally - brief round-up of results:

NAT
Aldershot 2-2 Sutton - all the goals in the 1st half
Bromley 2-3 Maidenhead Utd as above with a hat-trick for Clifton
Dover Athletic 3-1 Woking - Dover go top as Macclesfield lose at D&R

SL Premier
Banbury 1-1 Chesham
Basingstoke
1-1 Dorchester
Royston 4-3 Farnborough - 'boro led 0-2 at H/T incl one from Cureton - Royston got one back on the hour mark before a mad last 5' + injury time saw 4 goals scored - boro falling behind; levelling @ 3-3 on 90' but losing on 93'
Slough 5-1 Gosport Boro - Rebels go top on GD from Kings Lynn, whilst in form Weymuff lose 0-2 at home to Frome
SL East
(Mon) Beaconsfield Town 0-2 Aylesbury
Ashford Town {TEN} 10-0 Fleet Town
Hartley Wintney 1-6 {SIX} Hayes & Yeading :shock: Duku hat-trick as The Row were outpaced and out-muscled by a big HandY side.
Marlow 3-1 Thame Utd -
Got out for this : Blues tore into Thame and were 3 up inside 20' - then eased off. Some needless handbags turned the game a bit feisty and Thame upped their efforts got a goal back early 2nd Half and showed a few glimpses of why they were so good in their promotion season. Marlow did enough at the back to keep them at bay - Garnes in goal looked particularly calm and composed under some lengthy pressure.

Moneyfields 2-0 Egham - surprise early leaders keep picking up impressive wins
Uxbridge 0-2 Chalfont St Peter
SL West
Nor Lye 1-0 Mangotsfield
{WED} Evesham 1-3 Kidlington
{WED} Larkhall 2-3 Didcot

... not much going on at STEP05 just a few League games - amongst a small number of Cup Ties
CCLP
Chertsey Town 1-4 Spelthorne
Walton & Hersham 1-0 Bedfont Sports - 3rd bt 2nd and they swap places behind Westfield who were in cup action

HELLP
{Mon} B&B Sen Cup
Woodley Utd 1-1 Abingdon Utd - - H W 4-2 pens

Burnham 0-2 Windsor - Windsor up to 7th but a big gap up to 6th though they do have games in hand.
{Wed} RWBT 0-5 Oxford City Nomads bit of a :o looking at respective form but Nomads regularly intersperse results like this amidst a fairly mediocre run of form - often adds fuel to the inference that they can and possibly do sometimes call upon 1st Team squad members

WESSP
Andover Town{SIX} 6-1 Hamble Club - Town gathering some serious momentum now - take over top spot from Blackfield & Langley - have only dropped 2 points from 36
{WED} Alresford Town 2-3 Shaftesbury

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Completed Draw for the next round of the B&B Senior Cup - ties to be completed by mid-November with half of them scheduled for Tue 31st next midweek - Windsor seem to have come out of it quite well though NPT still high-flying in UCLP - they have lost 2 in their last 3 having been 100% at the start of the month.
Ascot United v Milton Keynes Dons - to be rescheduled - supposedly MKD have another fixture which takes precedence?
Beaconsfield Town v Woodley United (Mon 30/10)
Didcot Town v Flackwell Heath
Hungerford Town v Bracknell Town (14/11)
Maidenhead United v Chesham United (TBC)
Slough Town v Wantage Town (19/12)
Thatcham Town v Marlow
Windsor v Newport Pagnell Town
Ex Windsor player Ben Harris has signed for Ascot Utd.
He has been playing in New Zealand the last 3 years (only coming over for the cricket season when he often comes down to Stag Meadow to watch Windsor play) and has won 2 league titles at the highest level in NZ and a Golden Boot Award as well.
He doesn’t seem to be on Team Wellington’s current squad list so maybe he’s come back to stay. He is seriously too good for the Hellenic League. If he stays fit expect a hat trick every game.
Flackwell Heath 2-3 Windsor (2 pens converted by Windsor and 1 saved by Windsor’s keeper, Justice Owusu.)
Not a lot of flair but another solid performance. We played the last 15 with 10 men.
6 wins on the bounce and still in 4 cup competitions. It has the makings of an enjoyable season.
Barry Hayles still not doing a lot (except moaning and falling over) but he tends to have 2 defenders on him which frees space for others.
Have to say been impressed with Windsor’s results this season. Could they be dark horses to sneak a promotion place with all the re-org in the summer? Their games with Highworth and Bracknell will be very interesting.
...much fuller round-up to follow but the Hellenic Premier league is showing signs of bunching up a bit at the top :
- leaders Highworth were beaten 2-4 at home by Wantage to end their 100% start, though they still have a couple of games in hand - maybe last weeks home reverse in the Vase has hit them hard -
- Bracknell dropped points 1-1 at home to Thatcham and Brimscomb &T make up a runaway six beating a sorry Ascot 3-0.
Windsor are choosing a good time to start a run, what with the 'wobbles' higher up. Crucially they have 2-3 games in hand on all above them so the current gap to 6th of 11 points could soon be eroded - if they can keep momentum.
In particular their next four scheduled league fixtures look very favourable.
They start vs Woodley United - and end the month with a visit to Scours/Rivermoor for a League Challenge Cup tie; these are either side of Premier games v strugglers Fairford, Ab.Utd & Burnham.
There are also two cup ties interspersed with these, to negotiate: County Cup vs NPT this Tue and a Sunday outing on the 12th, into Sarf East Lahnen, to take on Erith Town in the Vase - the Southern Counties League side currently lodge at VCD Athletic's Oakwood ground in leafy Crayford. Might ponder taking on the M25 for that one meself! :mrgreen:
Early December will really test their mettle, with games against three of the top six (Bracknell, Wantage & Thatcham) - if they come out the other side of these within touching distance then they'll need considering as viable contenders.
Beating the likes of Highmoor and Flackwell are a real marker for Windsor.
Wantage are a bit of a surprise package too aren't they? They've beaten both Thatcham and now Highworth to shake up the title race, although it still looks Highworth to lose.
Looks like Thatcham threw away two points at Bracknell though. Leading 1-0 and they got a player sent off with 25 minutes to go, with Bracknell equalising with less than 10 to go. That would've been a big result had Thatcham held on for all 3 points.
mx Never mind. Friday is the big one, S*lisbury at home. £5 on the gate with a Reading FC season ticket, if any of you fancy popping down. Similar discount for Saints and Eastleigh fans too.
3-0 up after 40 mins, lost 5-4. Really good game for neutrals, gutting for Winch.
Further up the thread (or was that on the Winchester Board?) I said the three games against Taunton, Bristol Manor Farm and S*lisbury would tell us how good we really are. Well, we lost all three of them and managed a home draw against a bottom half of the table side, Paulton in between.
We lack an ability to close games down. At times we are playing lovely football, but heads go down as soon as we concede a goal. The manager is good at communicating with fans - he does a summary after every game - and people like him, so I don't think he's got a problem yet. We are almost a very good side, we just keep chucking away points with late goals. It's just a shame given that this season will be the easiest to get promoted for years.
Possibly we have found our level and this is it for now.
Highmoor vs Bracknell was abandoned last night with Bracknell saying it was nothing to do with any of their players.
Sounds like Highmoor might've been living up to their poor reputation.
I was told by someone who was there that a Highmoor player was sent off and then went mental and went for the ref.
Standard Highmoor. Shambolic club. Think we got them in the league next week too :D
We played them twice in 2 weeks recently, 1st time they ended up with 9 men, 2nd time I printed up 30 A5 sized red cards and every time they fouled a Windsor player they were waved accompanied by shouts of “off, off” and “Highmoor love a red card, Highmoor love a red card, la la la la, la la la la”
What fun and japes.
Hoop Blah Beating the likes of Highmoor and Flackwell are a real marker for Windsor.
.
Highmoor are a pretty poor outfit this year (not helped by rarely keeping 11 on the pitch and dealing with related suspensions) so no great indicator of Windsor being on the up.
But 2 away wins on successive Saturdays against Flackwell in Cup competitions is a real boost.
Recently released Reading Academy player Jack Denton has been excellent. Only small but class at this level (as you’d expect really). Has scored 5 in 6 from midfield. All our best moves come through him.
Windsor 2-0 Newport Pagnell Town
Another excellent performance from Windsor, making NP who are high flying in their league look pretty ordinary.
That said our young replacement keeper did make some good saves. Shame his kicking is a bit off at times.
That's true they're certainly a poorer side this year but they're still an awkward side to play against, especially for a young team.
