Why are we buying players from Teams lower than us and then all of a sudden they are good players.

Because mambo, one player does not make a team, Villa could have a squad of duffers and Bacuna be a world beater, it doesn't mean he'd have got them to second on his own. Because players don't always perform to their best for every club or in every season. Because we'll find our options pretty fecking limited if we only try to buy players who finished higher up the league than us.

Could see bacuna being used as a right wing back as well if we play Gunter as a centre back

Think Clement might be used to give Swift some competition in an attacking midfield role as well.

By the looks of that, Williams is slightly better going forward, Bacuna slightly better defensively but we're talking small margins. Williams's passing is more accurate but Bacuna less likely to get caught in possession.

All in all a similar standard of player to Williams, although bearing in mind, bar last season, Bacuna has been playing at a higher level.

Pretty much and he's hampered with Villa having not really had his own position. His attacking stats came out much clearer with Groningen, but less data was available and it's a different league. Given the fact a lot of that is in the Prem, in a side which was progressively getting worse and not in a passing style. He holds up pretty well. If his personality fits, I'd be very happy to give him a shot.

Yep, can see both of those happening.

If we see Bacuna more out at the side then I'd definitely like to see one more midfielder. Now is also the time to invest in a striker before Kermorgant goes.

Squad doesn't feel too far away though. Elements can always be improved, but that's a damn good base.

I'd agree. He may not be a true box to box midfielder in the Sidwell mould but I think he could bring some solidity and brawn to central midfield.

Who says that we've actually signed him?

Not sure such clauses are allowed are they ? Something about one team not being allowed to interfere with selection of another team ?
However all they have to do is delay the deal until Tuesday afternoon to come to the same end result.

If it completes before then all that could happen is a gentleman's agreement.

Nothing says that we have to adhere to it once he's our player though.

Can you explain this?

We play three midfielders. We currently have five, maybe six senior midfielders, one of whom has spent an entire season injured last year. We lost one of our senior first team regular midfielders in the summer.

Surely a midfielder should be on the shopping list?

Yes we want a striker more desperately, but we're very clearly chasing several. It would be a pretty shit DoF who just worked down his list of priorities only trying to sign one at a time. Multi-tasking is a thing you know?

BBC Berks were reporting that they have been led to believe the deal will be finalised and signed later today (Sunday). The player was at the game yesterday and apparently sitting in the director's box. Let's hope he's not been put off by the performance

After the way he was treated by Villa fans, we should do everything we can to play him on Tuesday.

He will 100% score the winner against them. It's one of those inevitable things in football.

If he does an Adebayor-style celebration I will officially love him.

Agree

People seem to get an idea in their head and just blank out reality

We have loads of wingers but urgently need another central mid to replace Williams. Can't rely on swift, Evans, joey, Quinn and Kelly to fill 3 spots all season

Villa fans think he is shit but they also think Tshibola is shit and he was good for us, so who knows.
