Platypuss
Ginger Ninjas Rapid were never going to sell before finding out if they'd qualified for the CL group stage, so all these 'Hammond/Clarke/the Thais dallied' comments are pretty redundant.

...is nonsense

They gave a price. We didn't match it, until it was way too late.

Folks, you are, now and again, allowed to admit the club got something wrong.

At the time Rapid gave that price, we still had Pog on our books and therefore may not have had the money to match it at that time.

OK, we could have moved some money around and changed some of our targets, so you can argue that the club got it wrong.

We don't actually know if Beric and Donaldson were our only top targets. They could have been working on another deal at the same time. It was Rapid who went public with our interest in Beric and probably Donaldson's agent who made that one public.

It is quite rare for a club to offer the asking price. You try and get the best deal you can. Liverpool asked for 50 mil for Sterling and got 48. Barca wanted 28 for Pedro and got 21. Yes in hindsight we should have offered the asking price but we didn't and have now been bitten. I do, however, think it hinged somewhat on the Pog leaving and releasing the cash to be able to make the bid, just my opinion of course and I do think we have other targets and can only hope one of them will come up trumps

There's no guarantee we'd have got him even if we matched the bid sooner. For all we know he'd have wanted to hang on and see about Champions League Football, not been interested in England or St Ettienne could have been pressured into getting involved sooner.

The only thing that matters is that Hammond has demonstrated time and again that he does a good job despite those who want to criticise him at every possible opportunity. He doesn't win them all, he doesn't do everything perfectly. But he's a definite asset. And for those who want to compare this to Tommy Smith gate, remember that it was Rodgers who was shooting his mouth off all over the place about the transfer.

@AlexHuber81: news for all fans of @ReadingFC - Beric deal to ST Etienne not complete. Beric travelled to England yesterday for discussions with English club. Keeping options open.

Cue "we tried" and "we are happy with what we've got".

Clockwork.

RoyallyFcuked I'm still not sure the Thais have put any money in yet.

They've put money in and lots of it. It's been a slow burn but finally we're starting to see and hear from the owners.

Stepping stones from day one.

Form the consortium
Pay of the debt £25mil whilst keeping fans expectations low
Financially stabilise the day to day ruining of the club
Meet with planning authorities to discuss building plans to further underpin their business model
Gracefully move JM to one side
Pay off Adkins (positively) I couldn't resist, sorry
Appoint SC
Do just enough to keep the club up without panic buying in January and keeping expectations low
Extend Gunter and Mcclary's contracts
Move certain back room staff out
Allowed average players contracts to run down whilst showing them respect
Extend Hector's contract
Resign Fosu's contract
Confirm Thai Airways, Carabao and maintain Waitrose as main sponsors, sponsors some prem clubs would be proud of.
Sign in demand, above average experienced players on frees
Sign players for the u21s
Spend money on new signing fees (still ongoing)
Secure keeper cover while waiting for our main GK target to become available
Confirmed more players will be arriving, players identified by SC to the owners
Arranged a top media reception and club promotion in homeland.
Announce possible tv streams to Thailand of RFC games
Keep the fans expectations low!
Pay the bills!
Promote the club to new markets.

These things, all in such a short space of time on this scale just don't happen without real money, strategy planning, staff, organisation, contacts. I think we finally have ourselves some real owners with a plan and money to invest.

And SC has a team with options, lots of options.
