Rumour - Sergi Canos

by George_ » 17 May 2016 09:11

The Independent:
If Canos does not agree a new long-term contract at Anfield then Liverpool will have little option but to sell him, as he would still bring in a fee of at least £1million if he made a permanent transfer this summer. Brentford are keen on signing him permanently, after he made 38 Championship appearances and scored seven goals for them. Reading and Fulham have also enquired about him.

Looked a pretty tidy player when we played Brentford earlier this season (scored the winner) and came off the bench for Liverpool on Sunday after his loan at Brentford finished.

He'll probably go to Brentford but I'd be up for this. Scored a cracker against us.

He's a decent player but I imagine he'll go to Brentford.

Sadly can't this happening myself. But then if we move quick and can give him belief he'll be playing regularly then just perhaps we have a shout. I have a feeling he'll ultimately be a better option on the right than McCleary.

If it comes off then I think it's just the sort of signing we should make and would actually go some way to making us think there might be hope of a fairly decent side next season.

In terms of club size and infrastructure, we're significantly ahead of Brentford right now, so if push came to shove, we'd no doubt be able to offer better terms than them.

Of course it's so obvious, why would he want to join a club that finished 13 points and 8 places above us, scored 20 more goals than us, only lost one of their last 9 games (winning 7 of them) and have a Manager with an attacking style of football that seems to be taking them places, and owners who actually have an interest in football rather than land development.

It's a no brainer, he would never go to Brentford!

Will any players come to Reading, when they realise the owners have no interest other than making their fortune from property deals?

He'd be a pretty useless footballer if he didn't.

One whole million! We wont have the biggest budget this season but £1m is not a lot these days and not beyond us! That said, I expect him to go to a top end Championship club if he comes to this league. That isn't us at the moment.

Brentford are way ahead of us right now.

Their owner, Matthew Benham, is a lifelong fan, has significantly deeper pockets than SJM ever had, and is making a real go at it. They made a massive profit on Andre grey, amongst others, and are cute in the market place ..

If Canos chose to come here , in our current ( uncertain ) position, it would really be a major coup..

Lets face it though, whilst Brentford are clearly on an up, they're still a smaller club punching at the top of their range. Whereas we're an established Championship side that regularly competes in the promotion stakes who are in a (relatively) mild slump. And our wage budget must be huge in comparison to Brentford. Unless we're massively slashing the wages this season, we can easily afford to pay more than Brentford and have better infrastructure and a sounder medium term past. And Money Talks.
