Pepe the Horseman We were interested in King in the summer, but he's on 40k a week. He's more of an ambassador than a player at Leicester these days. Sure he'd fancy a move to Reading, but he'll probably get a better offer from a lower Prem team.

Ah right, I didn't realise we'd shown an interest in the summer.

He's not even played in the league cup or been included in their 25 for the Premier League so he knows he has no future there but, as you say, it's whether he'd get a better offer than us or not, and you'd have to expect he would!

Interesting on the wages front. It was suggested on the radio the other day that Moore is on £30k a week. A 2.5 year deal on £20/30k might still be an attractive option for someone like that.

Another player I used to keep an eye out for, and always thought would make a good signing for us, was Luke Garbutt. He was a good attacking left back who looked good playing for England u21s and on the rare occasion he got a game for Everton.

I looked him up and it turns out he's currently on loan at Oxford and generally struggling to get a game.

Obviously that probably rules him out as a someone I'd like to bring in, but it just goes to show how things can change for a player if they don't take their opportunities.

We should go in for Macauley Bonne, as previously suggested. There's now Prem clubs swarming for him

Hoop Blah but it just goes to show how things can change for a player if they don't take their opportunities.

Drifting off topic

That makes it sound like it's the player's fault - which isn't necessarily the case.

Some players just reach their peak earlier than others - so if they are being bought/brought through on potential at 17 or whatever, and simply never improve, no matter how hard they try - then that is "an opportunity not taken" in theory - but it is also "an opportunity that could never have been taken", as the talent simply wasn't there.

Seems to me, it is often the emotionally mature team players who get made captains of youth teams that this is true of. They're making the most of their abilities as teenagers, rather than showboating and goofing around - but there isn't enough talent behind that to carry them on any further.

Donervon Daniels, who we've been linked with might be an example - Baggies U21 captain, and young player of the year when he was 19. Must have looked like Reading made a mistake at letting him leave our academy 3 years earlier. But since then has managed less than 100 games in 6 1/2 years, mostly at League 1 level. Of course I know nothing about him, so there may have been more involved.

Looks like our entire U21 cup winning team from a few years back could also fall into that category

#pufc have accepted a 1.3 million offer from #readingfc for Marcus Maddison. A deal is expected to be completed by early next week. Happy with that Reading fans?

Seemingly relatively ITK.

I was also fooled, until I clicked on the link and saw it was a fake account.

I don't get why people would start fake accounts like this, surely people have better things to do? Or maybe thats just me being old and boring.

Obviously it's a little more complex than just players missing their chance (for a variety of reasons) but in a decent number of cases it will be down to a player not taking that chance, or being able to through injury, form, teammates support, team form or as you say their actual ability, when it's presented to them.

Agree that some players will look great at one stage of their early career and then tail off when others catch up or their form just disappears. I'm sure you're right that in a lot of cases that's just because they were never quite as good as they looked at younger ages.

I don't get it either, but it's like pranking. Your man Michael McIntyre for instance. these elaborate setups to make a fool out of somebody. I don't get it!

Or trolling.

But then I find a lot of things other people think are funny, just plain weird. so I guess it's me that is weird.

What's he doing? Picking up £25k a week probably!!

I do remember some suggestion that he's there as 3rd choice keeper because he's English and they'd wasted a spot for a foreign player in their squad on 3rd choice keepers in the past.

Still, you'd have thought they'd get someone a little more current for that really wouldn't you.
