John Smith
Hound was talk of them wanting 18m for Gayle.

Seriously pricey. Obv a good player in this division though

Remember when Alan Shearer cost £15m

surprised there has been no noise about Lasse Vibe. Thought he would have been right on our radar. Believe he is last year of contract unless he signed one without me noticing

would have thought a better bet than Hemed

Rather than spaff shed loads on Aluko should have gone in for that guy Bodin at Bristol Rovers IMHO ..

So would I, but Brian Tevreden has never heard of him, come to that I doubt he knows who Bristol rovers are.
And therein lies the root of our problems.

Cash clearly wasn’t a huge problem. We got Aluko because he played the inside forward role we wanted, was great in a team playing like us, weakened an opposition team, and was inexplicably available due to a strange Fulham contract policy. It made complete sense. No-one found Aluko to be a bad signing, the issue was that we wanted and failed to get a striker. We bid for Oliveira and Hemed, probably a few others. Our downfall was that Brighton didn’t get a striker themselves... sure it’s our fault, but Bodin over Aluko would have satisfied practically no-one.

Because our DOF has very little knowledge of what is available in the English leagues. Hammond would have found someone without a doubt.

The route of our problems is that you assume that our DoF is so incompetent he doesn't know all the teams in the English football league?

That certainly would be a problem if it were at all credible.

You think signing the striker from BRISTOL ROVERS was the answer, did you? And this is the reason you do whatever job you do and have absolutely no involvement in the club.

Dreamer.

thats nonsense

I think everyone was pretty happy with the signings we made - Barrow looks an absolute bargain, Bacuna potentially likewise, whilst Dadi, Mannone, Edwards look like reasonable squad players at a good price.

The striker thing is going to keep coming back of course, but we made attempts to sign good strikers. Its obviously easy in retrospect to say we should have signed striker who is scoring goals but it really isn't that easy. Someone like Murphy looks a no-brainer now, but when it was discussed on the Rumours section, it was hardly greeted with enthusiasm (same as Yann but not as good etc).

I think JDB is potentially a good CF. But Stam needs to abandon the silly front 3 he is playing and put some trust in him, at least until Sir Yann is back and firing

With the obvious Striker issues we have at the moment I thought I would look at what was floating round in the free transfer market and 2 stand out. (Ignoring Giussepe Rossi as I am sure he would not come to us for all the money in China.)

Ruud Boymans - Dutch Striker last played in the United Arab Emirates (Where he did not actually play apparently) but in the 3 previous seasons in the Dutch Leagues scored 46 in 60. seems to know where the back of the net is and would fit in with the other Dutch Players.
and compared to Kermorgant at 28 he is a young wipper snapper. (Apparently Palace could be interested)

David N Gog, ok he was never prolific in the English leagues but i bet he has a point to prove and also at 28 still has time to make his mark, only down point is that he is just coming back from cruciate ligament damage so would probably be out as long as Kermorgant is.

I know Stam does not like the free transfer market but this dutch guy seems really interesting.

Anyone without a club would take too long to get match fit and is without a club for a good reason.

Andre Onana - GK for Ajax. Might be shite but think about the song.

'ONANA, what's his name,
ONANA, what's his name,
It's Andre, it's Andre, it's Andre'

Not to mention Trevor Senior, Kerry Dixon, Martin Butler, Kevin Doyle and Shane Long .. possibly the most successful group of strikers in Reading's recent history with three of the group going on to play international football for their country and to my memory all came from lower league clubs with none of them costing big bucks !
