Neil (i am C**K)Warnock

by pwb » 14 Mar 2017 12:51

Just seen this on the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39264495 the bit that stands out to me is "I like Warren but you can't just put someone into the Championship who's never been there - it's nothing like youth football."
Does he hate us that much, that he completely forgot about Jaap Stam Pedigree

Would be interesting to hear the LMA's viewpoint on this.

As a counter point, the managers of the 4 of the top 6 teams in the Championship all got their first managerial jobs in second tier football or higher on the strength of stints as youth team or reserve team managers. The only two who didn't were Gary Monk who had no coaching experience at all and Chris Houghton who went through the coaching ranks at Spurs and who's first managerial job was in the Premiership. After 30 years in management, Warnock's clearly hit his ceiling in the Championship.

I don't think it's any manager's place to publicly say someone else is a shit manager.

Can't begin to imagine what Warnock's reaction would be if someone else said they'd love to beat Cardiff because Warnock's a conceited prick who needs bringing down a peg or two.

Neil Warnock is a tremendous manager and I find myself agreeing with most things he says, unless they involve Reading FC.

His opinion isn't really the issue, it a massive lapse of judgement for a current manager to public say that about another manager.

There's a reason he is known as Colin. Best to ignore whatever he says to be honest

McDermott had no experience and took a team from 20th odd to 9th.

Warnock's just a dinosaur waiting for a meteor strike.

Youth team comparisons with Stam are bit naive though. Jong Ajax play in the second tier of dutch football, fully competitive adult competition.

So he got his first managerial job in 2nd tier football with next to no prior experience other than a short spell as assistant manager at Zwolle, also in the 2nd tier. Isn't that what I said?

Wasn't referring to you, in fact didn't even read any replies beyond the OP, just a general comment.

I'm confused.
Warnock is saying you can only appoint a manager to a Championship club if they have managerial experience of the Championship ?
Before Warnock managed in the Championship for the first time how had he got Championship experience ?
He can't be suggesting that only people who have played in the Championship can manage in the Championship ?
Presumably he'd also think only those with Premiership experience can manage successfully in the Premiership ? Which might be worth debating with Wenger, Jose, Sir Alex, Conte, Guardiola, Ranieri etc etc etc

Still at least he's not telling us our pitch will cost us promotion, another one he got pretty badly wrong.

I think what Warnock is actually saying is that you can have a successful managerial career in the Championship whilst being an obnoxious, arrogant cnut, although as a Yorkshireman, I do accept that he can't help being an obnoxious, loudmouthed, arrogant cnut.

Oh, granted he's a more than capable manager at this level and his record testifies but that doesn't give him the authority or status to make public statements like that about other managers.

though I still pantomime h8 him of course

his stints on talk sport have mellowed my opinion of him somewhat

and his recent comments about not wanting silence or applause at matches when he dies, but a minutes continuous booing, are gr8

He is a good manager, no doubt......but a great one wouldn't get relegated or sacked everytime he goes near the PL......
