RUMOUR - Cyrus Christie

by CountryRoyal » 18 Jun 2017 14:29

Us and QPR in for the Derby right back, according to Get West London.

I always thought he was one of the more impressive fullbacks in the league, and a year ago I would have bitten your hand off. However Gunter has been much improved of late, and with the emergence of Watson I really don't see much point in looking for right backs unless it's a genuine, undoubted upgrade. I'm not entirely sure that it is.

I like Christie, but as an Irish supporter, even with green tinted glasses, I can sadly confirm that his crossing is erratic and he isn't great defensively. Which is a bit of a drawback. From an Irish point of view, I'd be all in favour, as working with Stam could only improve him. But unless Gunter is going, and he's a straight swap, then it's a no - it's not an upgrade.

Played in over half the league games last season. One goal, no assists.....

Can see why we would be interested. Reasonable passer, ok crosser, bit more of an offensive wingback than Gunter. A different option.

Always rated him, so whilst don't think it's necessary, wouldn't be upset to see him come here

I think he'd be great for us if we use a 5 back. He's more comfortable on the ball than Gunter and will drive forwards with it more, instead of passing sideways. Definite yes for me.

So I think it maybe worthwhile if it allows Tennai to get a stint out on loan somewhere for a season.

Cyrus is/has been an Ireland international and was also the nephew of the boxer Errol Christie who sadly passed away only a few days ago.

That's a good shout and something I hadn't considered. Whilst being in and around the first team squad will be beneficial, getting game time at this stage of his development is so crucial and he's obviously not going to do that whilst we still have Gunter.

I'd like to see him go out to a championship team ideally, maybe Milwall once they realise Cummings won't be able to cut it in the championship (slightly unfair on Cummings he became an ok-ish right back in the end). If not then a team pushing for promotion in league one, but either way insert a minimal playing time clause. No point if he's on the bench.

I would be happy with this depending on the fee. I just hope Derby won't ask for stupid money for him.
He's young enough to develop under Stam and good enough to start immediately.
Smells a bit like agent talk but I would guess Brian has had a summer shortlist for a while now.

This is a good signing imo if the fee is low. Also it would allow Watson to go on loan and play regularly for a season

I'm surprised he's only 24, feels like he's been around a lot longer.

No thanks. We have Tennai Watson who is IMO an excellent prospect and sufficient cover at right back.

Telegraph saying we want him and he's available for £1.5m. I'd definitely have him for that price.
