Lower West
CountryRoyal I love Al-Habsi and his shot stopping is very good, at times exceptional, however he's not comfortable with the ball at his feet and that's crucial for our style of play. His distribution is also pretty gash.

Never been comfortable with his feet. Even before Stam arrived. I'm nervous watching from the stands whenever the ball goes back to him. Makes one wonder if it's in the minds of the defenders too. Would a different keeper instil more confidence. Moore and Bond are out on loan. Jaakkola seems little more than a back up. Perhaps there is someone on the target list.

Moore left permanently. We have AAH, Jaakkola, Legg, Ward, Southwood and Rosario at the moment. If only we went up, might have gone for Onana from Ajax...

I was about to say of the younger lot none are ready to step up, but Liam Kelly has shown us that sometimes you can be ready, even if you haven't demonstrated it or had the opportunity to.

I'm not saying it's particularly relevant here, who knows Southwood could be good, but it's just something to keep in mind with the younger players. As far as keepers go though unless we have someone significantly better lined up, I'm firmly in the Al-Habsi in camp.

Wasn't he shoved out to Italy because he wasn't a ball-playing goalie? Which is the only criticism of AAH? Don't think that makes much sense.

Good point. Maybe we need someone from abroad then as it is a continental style that we play

and Leicester City.

However both clubs see him as back up not first choice so not sure moves there would be that attractive to him as his age esp. as he was a regular for Wigan for so many years at that level.

Saudi is the real threat for a move but unlikely I think.

But if it did happen then Reading should be able to attract a pretty decent replacement - perhaps McCarthy's distribution has much improved or Feds is attractive to the club. Though I would imagine Stam would look to bring in another from elsewhere.

Seconded!

As much as I love AAH Im never fully 100% confident with him in goal.

Arguably the best keeper in the Championship last season? Statistically the best keeper in the Championship last season? Our POTY in the last 2 seasons? Who would you be comfortable with? Neuer?

I agree he has played amazing. But he always edges on the side of slippery and mistake ridden to me. I mean just someone with his shot stopping but the composure to not pass the ball to the oposition when we play it out the back. That not fair?

Come back to me with the total points he cost us last season in said mistakes and then we can see if your comments are fair. Ta.

royalsroyalsroyals92 I hate going for old players, but with Federici getting no playing time at Bournemouth, being a great passer and falling further down their order with Begovic - I'd love to see him back

Seconded!

And yet you want old safe hands Federici back? :?

Because Talk Reading quoted what I found and tweeted out? That's half their content.

Google translated a couple of them

Omani goalkeeper Ali Habsi is among the most important options in the center of the guard, which intends to # Hilal negotiate within this file ..

3 seasons .. Agreement with the player has been and remains the response of his club Reading on the letter of purchase contract ..
God completes

Last one suggests that they've agreed personal terms before agreeing a deal with the club? Isn't that the wrong way round?

The twitter posts are from the 22nd so this has obviously been in the works for a little while. Al-Habsi loves it here but Stam's already shown he's pretty ruthless if a player doesn't fit his style so the only way I can see him letting him move on is if he's got someone else in mind. Would be incredibly short sighted if not.

Yeah exactly, I'm not convinced. They've obviously got contacts within the club but most of their content is rehashed from other sources. Seeings how they've probably got it off your post then it's NOT a done deal, at least yet.

Looks like talk Reading just read hob nob.... ~The orginal picture of Hamad Al-Sawalhi with Ali Al Habsi on a random street was posted on 22 June, yet within minutes of the above post by Maffff this is tweeted....

Unless Talk Reading is Maffffff?

It would take more than a pic with a player to convince me they have signed.

However, given Al Habsi's family situation I'm sure he would love a move to the middle east and I can't see the club being harsh enough to stand in his way. If he is going then surely the club has been aware for a long time and you would expect a replacement to be imminent!
