Desperate for a striker poll

by Oilroyal » 27 Jul 2017 18:42

Our preseason is pretty much done and dusted and we’re still desperate for a striker. Jaap wanted a proven goal scorer added during preseason, but so far we've added nothing like a high scoring, proven striker.

How much money should the club commit to on a proven championship striker?

Given our record transfer fee is small compared to most clubs in the league, I expect a striker to cost significantly more. Other than that, it's about getting the right player at the right price. £10m is probably the right price for Dwight Gayle but not for Wells or McCormack.

A Prem club might pay £10 million for Gayle. But I reckon if he was available and willing to drop down to the Champ again, the richer clubs like Villa would be willing to pay considerably more.

I think we'll sign someone tomorrow (Friday) but not in time for Saturday PS game. Something along those lines.

I think we will see someone come in for between £5-10m.

5 million. If we get promoted we would buy a better striker. If we don't get promoted and spend 5+ million we will be putting the club at risk and would probably lose the player (if he performed well) putting us right back where we started.
It would at least be easier to make a profit on a well performing 5 million striker.

The right price obviously depends on the player and circumsatances. Not worth paying £5m for Oliviera if someone only a little less good is available for free, let alone £9m+

I don't think we should go higher than £6m for anyone we could realistically target though.

As long as it's Robin Friday reincarnated, the fee will take care of itself.

Absolutely superb post.

I think we will get in a continental nobody for £3-4m - a Rakells-esque signing, if you will

I will go for between 5 and 10m

We will brake the bank on this one I think. The value is in Europe.;
