Nameless 5 players scored 20 goals in the Championship last season. None of them are viable targets . Of the players we are heavily linked with they got 12,11 and 11 goals, last season.

Thinking we could sign a player who has scored 20 in a season is just utterly unrealistic. We need to find players like Yann, who as a result of fitting in with our style performed better than would have been expected.
Bodvarsson may well be that person, but pretty much whoever we sign is going to have to be someone who plays above their previous performances.

We aren't going to get a 20 goal a year striker. Best we can hope for is as said one who could score 20 but more likely 15+ with goals from elsewhere. Yann for example had the best season of his career last season, was generally a 10 goal a season guy before his 19 last year.

The prices being bandied about for the likes of Gayle, £20m and now even Oliveira more than £12m , we are not even in the running. We need another Glenn Murrayesq player of which there aren't any I can think of. Whatever happened to Ricky Lambert?

Released by Cardiff and without a club.
Great long term replacement for Yann I would have thought !
On a similar note I see Trevor Senior and Jimmy Quinn are both currently not playing for anyone ....

I love a bit of Rickie Lambert and was really jealous when he signed for Cardiff last summer (as Kermorgant hadn't exactly looked prolific). I think he was just knackered and has been sent to the glue factory.

Drew_3 Are people seriously expecting Yann to come back and just pick up where he left off? He has been out all pre-season and could well not hit form until the new year again this time as he did last season.

Bod has an indifferent scoring record at best and is simply another option in my opinion what we need as the final piece of the jigsaw is a proper 20 goal a season striker but unfortunately they cost.

Indeed, treat him like a Zltan type new year's option!

i'm with you, I don't think they'll pay over the odds unless it's one on their bucket list. i'm happy with none in and let smith grow into the championship. also like to see rimhonata given a chance to shine.
time will tell, but I see big things for these two if they stay put, but knowing rfc they'll let them go for peanuts!

It's a bit of a piss-take that its even come to this tbh. A striker has been a priority for donkeys now and yet we've been oxf*rd ourselves over a few players in our own league all summer long and will probably be priced out of all them for whatever reason.

I struggle to believe that we couldn't have gotten the player we need with £8m from literally anywhere in the world ffs. Would be pretty disappointed to not get that final piece in the jigsaw which would really see us push on I feel. Can we do it without? Maybe, but it will be a pretty oxf*rd amazing achievement if we do.

Just frustrates me when we keep signing wingers and what with Obita and Gunter going forward, what do they have to aim for?

Just as frustrating that some people just won't recognise we have THREE big centre forwards already .
What will the wingers aim for ?
The fing big Icelander, the massive black Frenchman or (when fit) the 20 goal Basque !
Of course we could have signed countless guaranteed 20 goal forwards, because everyone else has !

We aren't short of attacking players, we have lots more than we had last season.
I suspect had we signed Oliviera he would not have been good enough as he only scored a couple more than Edwards did from midfield....

The best of those three is injured, the other has a spotty goal scoring record at best and the the other is far from proven in this country or at this level. Other than that you're spot on!
