RUMOUR - Omar Richards

by RG30 » 20 Nov 2017 05:40

BOURNEMOUTH are ready to snatch Reading whizkid Omar Richards.

Richards, 19, has broken into the first-team at the Madejski Stadium but incredibly has just seven months left on his contract.

Eddie Howe is prepared to move quickly to land the left-back when the January window opens.

Richards’ expiring contract means he could move for just £2million, with Derby also interested after his display against them in the Championship before the international break.

Scouts are expected to continue monitoring the ex-Fulham Academy player’s progress through the season.

His displays at left-back have seen him compared to England star Ashley Cole after just a handful of appearances.

hmm really?

He looks a handy player but not sure he's that level. Not sure who it is comparing him to Ashley Cole

Maybe they mean Ashley Cole now, not in his prime.

One would hope Stam would give Richards more game time rather than continuing with playing a right back at left back. Richards looks like he can play at Championship level so all that's missing is experience and anything is better than unbalancing the team or playing Blackett as a left back.

Probably another Tshibola in the making. Get rid of him and get the money. With pleasure.

Not surprised at this. He slotted into the first 11 against Derby and gave a showing beyond his years. Comfortable on the ball, confident enough not to show too much respect to the opposition and just got on with his job. Almost a perfect debut with just one small error. Would be mighty pissed off if we let such a talent go.

He's only had a handful of first team minutes. Barely 2 or 3 games.

He's looked good but that's hardly "whizzkid" or "Ashley Cole".

Maybe people are also watching him in under 23 games etc?

possibly, but I don't think he has played that much this year for them due to injuries and being involved in the first 11

Reckon he'll play vs Bolton - would certainly like to see him have a few games now

Also like to think that Tshibola is a salutary warning to any of our academy products who are being tempted by big money while they are on the fringes of our team.

Well, if an untested 19 year old is worth £2m then Moore should fund a new front line and a brand new stadium with his transfer fee.

Ergo, I don't believe it.

Bournemouth have a good record in spotting lower league talent and taking a punt so this one wouldn't surprise me.

Omfg, bite their hand off for £2m! He's played less than 150 minutes of professional senior football hasn't he?

I don't even care if he turns into a world beater. We could easily get a quality experienced LB for that, surely.

Short term thinking.
In his full debut, he shone.
Against the backdrop of what will probably at best be a mid-table season, what better opportunity for a manager to bring on a promising young player, rather than play Bacuna out of position, where he, in turn, is less effective.
Omar is on the radar now, and the chances are that his stock will continue to rise, but he needs the opportunity to show his stuff on the grass.
In the utterly crazy world of football transfer fees these days, 2 million quid doesn't get you very much anymore.
If they go up, Clubs like Wolves will be chucking it around like drunken sailors. Bidding wars ensue, We could get a whole lot more for young Omar then.

After Derby Omar should have played in at least one of the next 2 or 3 games given the lack of a specialist left back.

The continued not playing him is utterly ridiculous in my opinion as these are games he could be playing to show whether he does have the quality or whether he was just a one game wonder we've all got carried away with.

Not playing him isn't helping the team's balance and can't be doing him much good either having made the team and been a stand out performer against a quality side in Derby. It's not as if Reading will be going for promotion this season is it.

If he does go, then I can't really blame him. Excellent on his debut, then sat on the bench or left back in the dressing room. I would though, remind him of other youngsters from Reading, who thought that the grass was greener elsewhere, only to find that it wasn't green, only looked like it.

I think you would have to put yourself in Omar’s situation, and if you did and the interest from another club was genuine then you would jump at the chance of leaving. I assume that he's worked hard throughout most of his childhood and had to make personal sacrifices to reach his goal. Signs for us at under 16’s level aged 18 and a year and a half later he makes his full debut which was almost faultless in a team of highly paid, experienced players who are not without error and then he gets dropped. The boy’s head must be spinning and under Stam even the pros don’t know if their coming or going in terms of team selection. No wonder results have been so inconsistent.

I’ll be mightily pissed off if Richards were allowed to leave but if I was him then I’d be totally pissed off sitting on the bench watching a RB play in the LB position.

Stam can be a complete twat at times, as he’s shown most of this season. He should play the oxf*rd boy! At least until he’s worthy of being dropped.

Not if he's out of contract.
