retro royal Dean Smith from Brentford, similar styles of play with a bit more purpose

+1. Brentford's attacking play has always impressed me. Slightly better infrastructure here so he might be interested as well.

I'm not fully Jaap Out yet though...

A man whose current career involves talking drivel half the time he's on television and who hasn't managed or coached a professional side in about a decade? A man who believes in reincarnation and thinks that being disabled is a sign you were a bad person in a past life, and is easily taken in by total shysters?

I genuinely can't think of many worse choices. I'd prefer us to appoint Bobby Robson.

I don't think either of those things would put me of Hoddle being a manager of the club. Anyone who says "how can he be so cruel as to say disabled children are disabled because they are bad" is too thick to understand what "previous life" means, and is also too thick to have their opinion taken seriously.

If Pep Guardiola embraced Buddhism, I don't think too many clubs would be saying he's unemployable.

On the other hand, pretty much everything else about Hoddle would put me off him.

I'm still #StamIN for reasons stated elsewhere.

But should fan power prevail and he gets paid up; a whole new backroom team would need to follow. Their style and philosophy has been rolled out right through to the academy.

Therefore we would need a similar mould in the new management.

Crazy as it sounds most Portuguese managers are proving successful atm and some play a similar possession style with a target man. Paulo Sousa would have been a capture, but he's gone to manage Pato' s club in China.

Closer to home as someone else has suggested, Dean Smith is doing a good job. Monk or Karanka are also good suggestions imo.

Wouldn't want McLaren or Warburton anywhere near our club though, just can't see that either would build a title challenging squad here.

How about paul cook at wigan ?

Got chesterfield promoted, got pompey promoted last season, and has currently got wigan top of the table.

One of those managers that seem to get teams promoted wherever they go.

Would have also said chris wilder at sheffield united, doing well there, got them promoted last season, and northampton town promoted the season before.

Don't think we'd be able to tempt him away, as he is managing the club he's always supported.

Good shout, a manager who has been doing a great job and kept under the radar. I always loved the Reading way with a good old fashioned 4-4-2 formation with flying wingers...so maybe Dylan Kerr as mentioned or maybe Micheal Gilkes being blooded as a manager.

Think Gus Poyet is currently available. Wouldn’t be a bad shout

You are right. It wouldn't be a bad shout. It would be ten times worse than bad, in fact it would be abysmal!

Really? I like him as a manager but guess what - he's been heavily criticised for all of the very same things that people are hammering Stam for!

Steve Coppell, though I doubt we could afford him.

Paul Cook would be a good option. Don't know too much about his style of play etc, but obv done a great job at Wigan.

Again, whether he would come is questionable.

Having been last night, I have now changed my opinion from undecided to Stam out, so time to reinvigor8 this thread. Who is available that we could realistically get in?
