TiagoIlori Can’t see what we have over Sunderland. Personally I don’t think he’d go to us if he doesn’t want to join Sunderland...

We may be having a bad season, Sunderland are an absolute basketcase of a club. When you have fans calling for Coleman to leave, to save his own reputation, it gives you an idea of where they are.

Not saying he won't go there, esp. if it's just a loan but at the moment we would be a much better option for pretty much any player.

I almost didn't write this out of dignity for myself but...Sunderland are a bigger club than us. They made Lewis Grabban look good when he was mediocre at best for us. Who knows how Martin would fit in here but it seems like the bigger personalities just don't get on at Reading.

Hurry up Mendes.

2018 Uefa Club Licensing Benchmarking Report shows Sunderland net debt at £159m the 3rd highest in UK and ahead of Newcastle ( and 13th in Europe ). They spent £1.25m in the summer and it is suggested have no money to spend in January. And Ellis Short remains desperate to sell.

Yet they meet Derby's terms for Martin's loan, and we apparently did not.

Everybody knows how desperate we are for a striker, and he appears to be Stam's no 1 target.

This , to me, puts the Club's dire straits into true perspective !!!

The club isn’t in dire straits. It just made a bid which hasn’t yet been deemed acceptable by his parent club

It might be more of a sign for how desperate Sunderland are that they’ve gone straight in and matched Derby’s demands, which I believe are covering his whole wages (and maybe a fee as well)

Sunderland had the novel idea of playing a striker in a strikers role rather than centre mid.

How many goals have our strikers scored in total in the League this season? It’s something pathetic like five. I don’t care if we don’t get anyone else in but we desperately need a striker.

Yes but how many times have we actually played with a striker?

I can’t recall any other season in the past 40 plus years when we had reached this stage of the season where our strikers had scored so few goals. Four goals in total. The problem is so much money has been wasted since last January that I doubt there is much left to spend in this window. Tevreden as well as Stam is lucky to still be in a job.

We have played a striker in most of our League games. Even Stam eventually clicked that playing Beerens or McCleary upfront was hopelessly misguided.

And you say Reading a dragging their feet on this? Only had 6 months to reach an agreement with the player.

After watching today with Martin in mind - I don’t think he’ll make the slightest bit f difference. I can’t see how he’d score any goals the way we play

I would still take him if the price is right, but yeah, I don't think he offers much more than Bod

Lets pretend Stam goes, the players remember how to play football and our dynamic attackers actually start creating chances... we're still left with the same problem we were left with in the summer and that's goal scorers.

If we remember how to play football, and our dynamic attackers start creating chances, then we have plenty of people capable of chipping in. Bodvarsson has a very healthy strike rate. Kermorgant scored 19 last season. Barrow already has 7. Aluko, Beerens, McCleary, Kelly, Bacuna, Evans, Edwards... all should be capable of 5.

That's more than enough to survive comfortably until we can make some proper changes in the summer.
