Rumour - Reise Allassani

by Sutekh » 09 Jan 2018 09:23

Reading and Norwich City have both been linked with a prolific non-league striker by Football Insider.

Dulwich Hamlet striker Reise Allassani has scored 17 goals in 16 games this season and was on the books of Crystal Palace earlier in his career.

He was due to join Sheffield Wednesday a couple of years' ago but the move was scuppered due to a knee injury.

I am all for signing players and I am sure the lad is talented etc but is this what it has come to?

it actually looks like a fair shout tbh. Was very rated at Palace but seemed to tail off and I think injuries hit him hard

Would be well worth picking up for a nominal fee if he is decent. Obviously not as the only striker, but one for maybe next season

Do you mean buying from non-league teams?

I call your Allassani and raise you one Robin Friday and one Kerry Dixon.

That was 40 years ago.......

I am absolutely not against signing non-league players btw. I am just suggesting it may be a sign of how poor we are as a club that we are persuing a non-league player.

Snowball Jamie Vardy?

Apparently that was in the past so it doesn't count!

Jamie Vardy is a complete anomaly.

And no, things that happened 40 years ago don't really count for a lot in todays market. The gap between non-league and Championship is astronomical.

Again 30 years ago.

You are aware football and the gulf between the lower level and top flight has grown massively aren't you?

Charlie Austin
Jimmy Bullard
Gary Hooper
Troy Deeney
Chris Smalling
Rickie Lambert
Grant Holt
Gareth McCauley

If a player has some ability and plenty of desire, then there's no reason he can't play at the highest level.

Who has said "don't sign non-league players" btw?

The list is a lot longer of those who have tried to step up and not made the grade.

But it's a low risk strategy. The player will cost relative peanuts for a club our size.

That is my original concern. We are potentially taking punts on non-league, cheap talent which is a sign of how poor we are financially. Not suggesting we shouldn't sign him because he is non-league, would just like a striker with league experience to help us out of our current situation.

That's because we are close to FFP according to big Ron. It's not a sign of how far we've fallen, more how far we've come with the money we spent in the summer. The caveat being it wasn't spent wisely.

Can’t believe we’ve missed one of the more obvious ones- Dwight Gayle. Angus MacDonald was in non league after we released him, he’s done ok in the championship since as has Yiadom. There’s nothing to suggest it will definitely work but it’s worth the risk, if it doesn’t work out the player will easily find a new club and losses are minimal, if it does we have a fantastic young player. This kind of player any day over a knackered championship reject
