Spaculation Phillip Wollscheid

by linkenholtroyal » 07 Feb 2018 15:31

Stam has said he will have to scour free market options after injury to Tommy Elphick.

This could be a bit of a coup really.....
Phillip Wollsheid, he is an ex Stoke Player and a solid Centre Back. Just been released by Metz as they cant afford his wages, at 28 he has 3 or 4 more years in him and has good experience of english football from time at Stoke. I doubt wages will be massive either?
Thought anyone?? and this is pure Spaculation

Why are we going to be able to afford his wages then?

Because he has been at Metz? who are not exactly a high wage paying team......

I've already said who we need - it simply has to be Joleon Lescott.

Throw in Micah Richards as well on loan for good measure. (Hasn't played a first team game for Villa for 480 days and counting)

Just seen Lewin Nyatanga in that list. Was at a house party in Sheffield with him a few years ago. One of the nicest blokes you could meet.

Good link, Stranded, thanks.

Wonder if Nuremberg Royal could offer his insights on this guy?

Yeah, I'm not big on our CB's, either. They may be able to pass, but there's not enough height, frail mentally and physically, not dominant enough, and we leak goals as a result from routine balls. Champ teams lump a lot of high balls in to the box, esp late in games when we've lost a lot of points this season. We aren't comfortable dealing with crosses, its often nervy and an adventure, players hide and go missing, rather than taking charge.

Think the first test for any of these free agents is how match fit they are. No point in signing someone who needs a 2/3 weeks to get near to fitness (both then fitness is possibly an issue for the whole squad given Reading have apparently shipped more goals in the last 15 minutes of games than other sides in the division).

If he wasn't injured, I'd say Elvis Kokalovich was a must.

Imagine Peter Crouch at centre half. Good technical ability for a big guy....but prone to the odd clanger or 3.
Ok if you are attacking but not so clever if you're defending. :?

Hmmm, thanks.

Looks like he only played one match (a cup game) for Metz...after they signed him at start of this year from Stoke? (Although, maybe Metz - who are/were at bottom of league - recently had a change of management and he's no longer in their plans. The link by Stranded says Metz paid 2.25mil for him, but elsewhere I've read he was actually a free transfer from Stoke).

So, who's going to tell Stam. He clearly doesn't look at this board and the path to date suggests that there's not a fan he listens to.

Maybe he'll listen to you then cos you certainly aren't a fan with a username like that.

Metz are as good as Bankrupt.
His wages were high approx 40k per week. but he will probably take a lot less on a short term contract to show what he is worth.
