Sutekh Supposedly Reading are currently a medical away from a striker (which every one is expecting to be Sam Baldock).

The club are NOT expecting any further permanent signings but may make a move or two in the loan market which apparently stays open until end of August.

That medical should have been done and dusted by now and we should have announced the player by now then, god knows what's holding it up, but we need more than just a striker to make us competitive. A number 10 after the striker has been signed would be a good start. A replacement for Moore and perhaps another winger depending on injuries.

The same striker that was meant to have joined the squad on Austria ??..the wheels of industry certainly arent turning fast in the transfers office!

Indeed, let's get Baldock announced this evening and then turn our attentions to getting a central attacking midfielder and a replacement for Moore if he is going. We have no time to waste, especially with the early window closure.

With the way things are going with deals, he will probably fail the medical now..and it will be back to square one...

What I wonder is why we never seem to be able to sign decent players from abroad - you'd think there'd be some good Scandinavian players who would do well in the Champ that would do well for us and would be much cheaper than UK-based ... but maybe we're just not scouting that area.

The central attacking midfielder should have been Maddison and done some time back but now that Vydra deal has collapsed, expect Leeds Utd to sign him pronto..

Maybe they are but they had also agreed an £11m deal with Derby for Vydra..but his personal demands killed the deal..now Derby cant buy Waghorn for £8m  ..for fear of breaching FFP regulations..

Hugill on loan would be a great addition for us on top of what we have now. We're not far away from his parent club location wise but it depends on what the situation would be with wages

Hugill
JDB
Baldock
Mcnulty

Would be very happy with that going into the new season.

Leeds are linked with everyone though. Its like their scouting network only read the daily papers wait to see who is interested in who.
Derby dodged a bullet there, Waghorne is not a 8m player.

Wasn't that going to be one of Clement's main attributes?

Well, my memory isn't quite what it was :) But as I recall, we assessed him as our prospective manager, and discussed his credentials and resume. In so doing, I do believe there was some discussion, accurate or otherwise, of how since he had worked abroad, he would likely have a network, with links and contacts and acquaintances, that might facilitate us having some access and exposure to some foreign players, that we may not otherwise have? If in fact it transpires that he currently doesn't have that string to his bow to help benefit us, so to speak, or indeed that never had it, then so be it, I guess.

I think it was more in jest about getting players in from Real Madrid etc

Maybe if we were in the Prem. He did pick up a couple of what looked like decent foreign loans at Swansea which didn’t work out if I remember though

generally quite pleased with summer business on a budget.
at the very least its clear that clement was able to identify what was needed in the squad, in terms of position and attributes, and then get the right kinds of players in, that we could afford and would want to come here.

this is the complete opposite of our random and profligate transfer policy of last summer of just buying mostly the same kind of midfielders.

moore going will put a big hole in our plans and preparations, but as long as we replace him with a decent player with decent experience at this level ill be happy with that n all

Agreed, if we can replace Moore with Hause (or A.N.Other CB who knows this level) and use any other funds to bring in maybe one more attacking option (midfield or wing) I think this will have a been a very decent window. Nothing to get overly excited about but a squad that should be able to compete and surprise a few this year.

Yep agreed with both of the above. A creative attacking midfielder is I suppose dependent on whether PC has seen enough of Swift to think he is up to the job. Jury obvs out at the moment

CB to replace Moore and I’ll be happy enough

Yep very good opportunity.

Nova and Smith getting good experience out on loan, might see one breakthrough properly next year.
