RUMOUR: Paddy McNair

by genome » 05 Jun 2018 12:40

Apparently we’ve bid, might raise our offer to £5m.

+1 on that but i think they have us confused with Brighton, hope not but probably. Unless Tevrenden got 12 million plus Baldock for Moore and we should put him forward for a knighthood.

Because we are Reading.

Don't bring up Aluko either, his transfer fee was all add on's. The realistic figure was around the £3.5m mark if you believe what you read.

Who’s to say McNair’s fee won’t be all add ons?

I'd like him here so I hope I am wrong but I just can't see us throwing that kind of cash at a recently relegated Sunderland defender. Other aspect to it are his wages, shouldn't imagine he's a low earner. Think he signed for them whilst they were still a Premier League club.

I’ll drive John O’Shea here myself if it’s a buy one get one free with McNair!

Would be a quality signing. Won’t happen.

And why would £5m as a figure reported be any less dependent on add ons and more reliable than Aluko's reported fee?

At least he seems quality, unlike O'Shea, but I'd rather we didn't plunder too many of Sunderland's squad of losers, we've got enough of those, we need winners.

Because he is a recently double relegated Sunderland player who plays for a club who are desperate for money, £5million would be very steep. Sone Aluko was in a successful, promotion chasing Fulham side who didn't have massive financial difficulties like Sunderland do and a rival. We had to pay over the odds.

Worth noting that Chronicle Live state that Brighton bid £2m then £3.5m.

They claim a second 'London' club (speculated to be West Ham) have bid £3.75m. I guess the second club could be us with Sunderland expecting a further bid.

Put the two articles together and read between the lines, it's entirely possible.

It's also just as possible (and more likely) they mean Brighton, especially when the Chronicle Live article suggests it's Brighton upping to £5m.

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/f ... r-14745323

"He scored four goals in his final five appearances, attracting the attention of Premier League Brighton. They had bids of £2m and £3.5m rejected and amid reports of a £3.75m offer from an un-named London rival – there has been speculation it was West Ham United – and are expected to come forward with another of £5m."

Nothing is beyond the Reading Chronicle. They have their best man Courtney Friday on the job. He was the one who got the big scoop on Fernando Forrestieri.................

Notice they were right on the ball with Meyler again as well. Friday was about to break the news, but instead he had a whinge that Reading don't do anything like Wycombe in giving free Child Season tickets to U12s (they do - my kids have never paid more than £1 a game you tool)
