John Smith
Hendo I would give us a good chance of signing him at some point.

I woudn't. He will go to Villa or another failed playoff side

Why?

All of the better teams in the Championship have decent enough 'keepers and there would be a risk he wouldn't be number 1 at any of them.

He could probably walk into most sides in the league. Many of whom are better set up and have more ambition to be promoted to the Prem. The Prem is everything in football and much more than being liked at nice, little old Reading

He'd walk into the Norwich and Sheffield United side should they go up and would walk into any of the other Championship sides (barring Casilla at Leeds).

He is far better than us and we have zero chance of him coming back here.

His new lid suggests he’s not 100% right.

Interestingly, saw a post with the keeper stats for the season. Anssi actually rates slightly higher than Martinez

though obvs stats don't tell the whole story

Jaakkola was having a very good season under Clement, so I'm not hugely surprised (I expect the stats don't weight distribution very highly), and Martinez has made a couple of costly errors.

But this is why stats are only a tool and not a single point of truth... because Martinez is clearly the better keeper. And especially the way we play as Anssi so just can't cope with the pressure of passing out and goes all to pieces.

Arsenal prepared to let Martinez leave this summer. I still think he’s too good for this level but you never know.

Where are we getting the money from?

Why would he want to play here?

Why would he not want to play in a top league?

Our savings.

Because we're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen.

See above.

Dare to dream?

by Schmeichel the dog » 22 May 2019 12:50

According to recent media reports, Arsenal seem to be hell bent on signing a new keeper in the Summer to replace Petr Cech (Valencia's Norberto Murarawill and Dynamo Dresden’s Markus Schubert)

This all suggests that Martinez may well be third choice (at best) at the Emirates next season.

Could we possibly secure his services next year on a season long loan? Could we? Please?

Second that if we make only one major signing this summer and it is Martinez I would be happy. We could sign whatever we like outfield but if we cant stop goals going in we might aswell resign ourself to relegation.

In my opinion the keeper is Vital if not the most important player on the field.

A player like Martinez is the difference between mid table and relegation dog fight.

I must be dreaming as I thought there was a place to:

a) discuss the squad for next season

and

b) discuss rumours and gossip.

would be delighted to get Martinez but think a solid centre back pairing (ie Miazga) and solid midfield (ie Baker) are at least as important.
One at a time.....

Arsenal are closing in on a deal for German goalkeeper Markus Schubert, 21, from Dynamo Dresden. (Independent)
