Plymouth are considering a move for out-of-contract Shrewsbury defender Matthew Pennington as they look to bolster their squad. Portsmouth remain favourites to sign Pennington with League One clubs including Reading also keen.

Ex Reading midfielder and now football agent Brian Howard said on BBC Radio Berkshire we were in for a client of his but they couldn’t afford to wait any longer and signed elsewhere. Judging by his agency’s twitter feed from recent days it could well have been Connor Shaughnessy who just signed for Portsmouth. Of course he was an ex academy player as well.
