Lets give the academy a chance - we'll get shot of all of them! If this goes through, then we can forget about all the "academy massaging" speak we get!

I think I just about give in now.

Bollocks to the academy, bollocks to the tight arse chairman, bollocks to the manager that is overly loyal to players that show nothing like the same loyalty in return, bollocks bollocks bollocks.

Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeesed off.

LOL you'd have thought we had just let Bryan Robson or Kanu just leave judging by 1 or 2 posts on here, pfff good luck to him he may as well get some football there rather than be 3rd or 4th choice here.

I'm pretty sure he won't be the only academy player leaving the club in the next week or so.

I've never been that impressed by Robson-Kanu so this doesn't worry me too much although I'd still hope this is a loan deal and not a permanent transfer at this stage.

What happened to Henry, Pearce and Karacan?

Academy has been producing league quality players for the last 4 - 5 years now. Before that it produced non league dross at best. We're at a point now where some of those coming out of it are at about Championship level. So about 10 years after it was starting we a close to seeing some returns. I'll give it a couple more years before hanging myself I think.

Not having a dig but has it really? In the last 4-5 years?

I can think of three or four, but only if you go back a bit further, but thats about it. We've got a few still with us that look like they'll be up to making a living playing league football but apart from that who?

my timings might be up the shitter, but Henderson is doing alright, not a full product of the academy, but we did develop him, Tyson also, Ashdown, Cox, HRK now.

Compare that to the first 4 or so years and it's an improvement. These things are long term jobs. If we haven't had 3-5 players come through to some degree after 15 years, then it may not be worth bothering. Until then it's useful to have for the potential saving and help it could be.

NO academy is going to produce more than a couple of any high standard each year and ours is still relatively young.

I wasn't really counting Henderson either, but over the last say 8 years I couldn't think of more than 4 who've come through our ranks to go on and have productive professional careers (the four being Tyson, Ashdown, Cox and Lockwood - you could maybe claim Hayes at a real push perhaps). There maybe others but I can't think of them (Jamie Young doesn't count either as like Henderson he joined at a later stage).

I don't yet count the current 18/19 year olds yet because even Robson-Kanu and Pearce haven't yet proven they're going to make it, although I'm sure Pearce will and hope the others do.

Hopefully that number will increase with the likes of Henry, Pearce, Robson-Kanu, Karacan etc but we used to here the same things said about the likes of Rifat, Castle, Campbell, Howell and the others of their crop and before but they've all faded away to nothing.

I just don't think our youth system has been a success over the last 10-15 years.
