Mikkel Andersen to leave?

by LoyalRoyalFan » 11 Jun 2010 11:03

Elsewhere, young Reading goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen is attracting interest from Europe after winning the golden glove award at the Toulon tournament.

The Denmark under-21 stopper has just one-year left on his Reading contract and it is believed that several top clubs in Greece are interested in his services.

Andersen, 21, spent a successful loan spell at League One side Bristol Rovers during the last campaign where he came third in the club's player-of-the-season award.

The Academy graduate is currently Reading’s third choice goalkeeper.

Looks a promising young goalkeeper and I wonder with all the goalkeeper competition, could we let a top young talent leave?

If they rate him behind Hamer and McCarthy hard to see him having much of a future here.

If we get 500k for him then we have done very well.

Didn't we pay six figures for him? It was pretty substantial, I though either £100k or £300k ish. But I can't remember properly and don't have Straps handy guide he did for me anymore.

It was said to be £100,000 at the time - so I would have thought we would be looking for about £300,000 to £500,000 plus a sell on fee if he moves again.

Will be a shame if he goes but as someone else said I cannot see how we can keep 4 keepers happy and Locke is supposed to also be another potential prospect.

I bloody hope not. He's a quality Keeper and much better than Hamer IMO. If we let him go I strongly feel Reading FC will regret this for a very long time.

Would rather see either Hamer or McCarthy go before Mikkel

Saw Andersen play against France U-21 in the Toulon Championships and made many great saves. Will be a top player one day.Hamer on the other hand is also a very promising keeper who won the Golden Glove two seasons ago in League 1.Hope to see both Hamer and him to prove themselves during the pre-season.

Maybe if they perform well enough Feds could leave? That will mean some cash for players!

Hamer is the only one of the three I've seen in goal at all, and that for only 20 minutes. I accept it was under difficult circumstances and only a very brief appearances, so judgement is definitely withheld. But what I did see was not impressive in the slightest.

I'm sure the club have a long term plan with the keepers and I would imagine it is somehing that has been discused at length.

McCarthy is by all acounts the real deal, Fed will remain 1st choice for the next couple of seasons, Hamer on the bench, McCarthy out on loan. So selling Anderson for a decent ammount makes sense, espicially after as his stock is high after the Toloun Tournament.

We've got a Schoolboy from Norway who big things are also expected of. Think he's a season off being in the academy still.

The academy is gonna be a real money maker for us now. People will pay over the odds for someone just cause they are from Reading. Same in recent years with Crewe, Forest and 'Boro.

Coming on in a televised FA Cup tie against Liverpool would not cause anyone else any anxious moments

On the subject of goalkeepers, I really think that we are unfortunate to have 4 very good young goalkeepers on our books. Now, we all know that 4 into 1 does not go so I would expect one or two to leave in due course. What e are lacking is a more experienced, oler goalkeeper. Ideally someone in their late 20s. If we had one then he would be automatic first choice. Will we get one? Probably not so we have to endure an ongoing learning curve from whoever is between the sticks.

The club, supposedly, have 3 very highly rated and outstanding keepers waiting to take over from Federici.

Decisions will need to be made next season as to where the long term future lies.

Personally I'd like McCarthy to be the ultimate choice as he is English and playing for the U21s.

Panathinaikos and Olympiakos are competing for Reading's Danish Under-21 goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen. (Daily Mail)

I think after the Toulon Tournament, get a few clubs in for him we could push to getting near a £1m for our 4th choice keeper. Not bad work at all.

He's American/Norwegian living in Switzerland but at school in Bearwood. 6ft 3ins at 15 and a very confidant outgoing personality. Already played for the under18's.
