Saints bid for Antonio

by The Goat was fed » 05 Aug 2010 14:42

Have apparently bid £500,000 for Antonio. I fear we might be tempted if that's the case....

thats a huge bid.
worry is the wrong word, but it would be a shame to lose him without him getting the odd chance at least

No reason to sell, if we did, we'd only have 3 wingers.

Would be annoyed if we took that - unless he refuses to sign a contract extension. He only has one year left so if he really wants to go back to Southampton and refuses to sign up we may be forced to take the money - as we would probably get less at tribunal next summer.

Would leave us light on the wings IMO as we have also let Henry go.

If this is true then he'll be sold.

We should see how he does at this level. One day we could get more for him. Not only that with Kebe injured (or being sold) it shows that we need to keep Antonio.

He deserves a decent runout for us I think. Madejski, however, will not think that way!

I think Antonio could be the dark horse this season

*no racisto*

and that he'll be pushing for a starting berth with Kebe and McAnuff. From what I've so far, Antonio > HRK, but consistency is such a luxury in younger players.

It is a decision lke this that would clearly explain the clubs ambitions to get back into the top league, only just starting out with a first team chance here he has looked sharp in pre-season, and shows great promise and potential, however if the possibility of a £500,000+ cheque is on the table, well we will see.

Earlier in pre-season and maybe we'd have taken it. But he seems to have looked very promising and we don't have a great deal of time left to bring in a replacement - certainly finding one who's likely to be as good for a fraction of the price and the same wages is unlikely. especially as they'd need to be content to do a large amount of bench warming this season.

A Saints fan on another forum reckons Antonio will be a Saints player by Wednesday....

If we can sell him and get a center back or striker on loan with the cash then i'd be happy with that.

I wouldn't. Antonio looks like a very good player, so if he were to go I'd be very miffed.

Apart from his long throw and a twisting run that ended in him losing the ball, which part of him looked "very good" on Saturday?!

I didn't say he looked very good on Saturday did I? I just feel that from pre-season and his loan stint at Soton last season he looks like a much better prospect than HRK.

To be honest I don't think either look like great prospects for an effective player at this level.

The biggest problem is that we don't really need promising prospects at the moment, we need players capable of performing in the Championship right now when Kebe or McAnuff are out of the side for whatever reason.
