League cup final

by Archie's penalty » 28 Feb 2010 15:48

1-1. Great start, slowed down considerably now.

Rooney on for Owen as he (surprise, surprise) is injured.

Game on!

how vidic didn't get sent off is beyond me. mates saying that dowd didn't because it's so early in the game, which is ridiculous... it was a foul, last man, denying goalscoring opportunity... sonko against pompey (i think) 2 years ago, same situation, and red card, no complaints.

Not sure that it was a clear goal-scoring opportunity. The ball was away from Agbonlahor but surely it must have been a yellow.

I'm generally not a fan of the double punishment of red card and penalty that we usually see in that situation, but rulez iz rulez.

Ironically, it was against Villa in 2006.

Dowd has been hugely lenient to the Man Utd players; as well as Vidic, both Rafeal and Carrick should have been carded.

If Villa play this formation against us in a week, I would hope that we go into the game playing a 451, Mills/Ingi in central defence with Ryan and Griffin as fullbacks, with Church up front (for his pace against Dunne), Sigi and Kebe wide, Tabb, Howard and Gem (if fit) in the middle, with either Tabb of Gem going man to man on Petrov; don't give that guy any time on the ball, or he will pick out one of Young, Agbonlahor or Heskey with a killer pass.

Here's hoping for extra time, and maybe a red card or 2 for Villa!!!!

I suspect that Carew will play against us on Sunday.

Heskey's hold up play has been superb; he then brings in the two wide guys, or else Milner coming through from midfield.

Only very blinkered people cannot see how good a player Heskey is.

As a goal scoring threat though, Heskey is not up to much.

I remember Keith Hackett getting absolutely slated for sending off Tony Gale early in the 1991 semi-final between Forest and West Hame, as it "spoiled the game." Of course, Hackett was right then and Dowd was totally wrong today.

The game has really slowed down now. Looks like it may well go to extra time :D i.e. Good for us next week.

... Nope - he's correct - the game chilip_91's referring to is New Years Day 2008 H v Pompey -Sonks Red Card 3 mins. - trip on Benjani - Krancjar missed pen.

... the match you are referring to was A v Villa -further back 23rd Aug 2006 - Sonks Red Card 33 mins - tangled with Moore, both players fell over - Angel scored the pen. equalizing Doylers 4th minute opener.

... and Shrek Jr makes it 2-1 !
