Sad news

by STAR Liaison » 04 Oct 2012 16:15

Probably my last post on here with this name is to let those of you who knew her that my mum - Sybil - died this morning at the age of 85.

It was not expected as she had already bought her Swansea and Liverpool tickets but at least Reading had made it back to the Premier League.

Paula,
So sorry to hear that we've lost Sybil.....Lots of memories of banter with her going back a few years (when I used to attend away games regularly).
Having been through some unbelieveable bereavements in the last few months, I know that words are not enough to help at the moment - but know that my thoughts are with you and your family.

RIP Sybil - a true Royal, with a heart of Gold.

Brad

What sad news.

There have been a good many away venues where I have scaled the stairs shortly before kick off to find my seat, only for Sybil to catch my eye as I made my way. I would always stop and say hello and in return you would get a smile and a genuine feeling of someone who was pleased to chat with you and who always spoke in an enlightened way and with great positivity about Reading FC. After those brief chats I would always somehow feel ever so slightly more confident that we might even get a result on the day.

I will miss those brief conversations. Condolences to Sybil's family; if my limited experience of her is enough to go by then their loss might be eased by knowing that Sybil was a familiar, polite, well liked and respected lady and a credit to supporters of the club she cared for so much for so long.

So, so sorry to hear your sad news, Paula.

As Floyd says, it will be hard to attend away matches in future without half expecting to see Sybil, already in her seat, greeting late arrivers like myself!

Should we stay up this season, I'm sure I will be one of many thinking fondly of your mum. Very sincere condolences to all your family.

Have only just seen this thread, such sad news to read.

I offer my own condolences to you and your family, Paula. I can't add much more than what Floyd has said save to say it comforts me that I provided such a respectable lady with some memorable, somewhat uncouth, memories that, when engaged in conversation, would regularly be spoken about with an eager glint in her eye.

A lovely lady whom I feel priveledged to have known.

I know it is not practical for most but if anyone wants to come to her funeral it is at 2pm Thursday 18th at St James Church, Bix

Thank you all for you comments, it does not fill the hole she has left but it does make mt proud of her and gives me aspiration that getting old does not have to be feared.

Only seen this post today, very sorry for the terrible news, I never had the chance to meet her but as many people have said she was a lovely woman who will be sorely missed. In my thoughts for the funeral.

I've just seen this thread too and I am shocked and saddened to hear this news.

Sybil was a charming, friendly, welcoming and energetic lady. Her passion and knowledge of RFC was immense. I will always remember seeing her down at Sonning Lane and, as others have said, at numerous away days.

I don't look on here much or post much, but I couldn't let this one pass without comment.

Condolences to you and your family Paula, and RIP Sybil.
