Parking

by chippc » 07 Aug 2017 13:58

Just seen that parking at the old Greyhound Stadium site is going up to £10 from £7 last season. That's a whopping increase for the same level of football. Even at £200 per season ticket it is a decent increase.

What has the level of football got to do with the parking?

was about to ask a separate q about parking but save opening another thread.

Likely to go to the Gillingham game tomorrow - guessing will be a pretty low crowd. Normally get the bus but going to drive down for this. Where is best to park nowadays - on site parking seems to be sold out?

Greyhound stadium seems one option

Thing is, it's OK saying 'well use public transport then' , but where I live the bus is packed by the second stop and there's still a few more stops after that. This new initiative will obviously push more onto the buses- but will more be layed on? Doubt it.
I also believe that the reason for the rise is a back door way to start clearing the main carpark in readiness for the Thais building projects.

Is the £5 group ticket at the Mereoak Park and Ride , a return price or a single fare?

My choice is still the World Turned Upside Down on Basingstoke road. I don't know why anyone would bother paying a for a car park when you can use the money for a drink and carvery :)

Oh, sorry, because it involves walking 10 minutes more :P

Each to their own - you'd have to pay me to eat at a carvery.

it only takes a couple of minutes extra to get from the Motorway Bridge (£FREE but not secure) spot to the Stadium than the Greyhound Parking (£10 but also not that secure) if you get there in good time. Plus it's all level until the steps up to the stadium.

If anyone wants the info DM me.

Also - you can park for free in the car park at the recreation ground off basingstoke road. You do need to get there about 45 mins before kick off though to make sure of a place.

Got my car done there a few years back along with a dozen or so others. Park there with caution, especially night games.

What are the Holiday Inn charging this season? I suspect they've bumped theirs up again to £10.

Parking costs are starting to become significant now and with no sensible/practical alternative, I may start to become a bit more selective about trying to rush to games on a weekday after work.

Mereoak P&R is good. Plenty of spaces.

If there's a group of you going you can all go on a group ticket for just £5 for the lot of you.

As predicted, Holiday Inn have cashed in. Parking now £10 v Fulham. Predict £15 once stadium parking goes. Such a long way from the initial pre-opening 'promise' of loads of free parking at the Mad Stad itself.

Anyone know how much a gym membership costs at The Holiday Inn? I'm beginning to think killing two birds with one stone might offer better value!

Use their facilities & get free parking.

I'd guess you'd be looking at £50-60 per month. That might involve a 12 month contract which for 8 months parking and maybe 20 gym sessions won't make much sense when you can park for a tenner and run round the park for nothing ! Probably cheaper to rent a room on match days ....
