How Many Points To Stay Up?

by Royal_jimmy » 11 Mar 2018 15:23

I'm going to say 45 will be the magic number to survive based on who our rivals have left to play. One of those bottom 3 will go on a run I think.

That leaves us 9 more points (2 wins and 3 draws). Wins vs Sunderland and Norwich and draws vs QPR, Ipswich and Preston should be the minimum aim. Ipswich and Preston may have nothing to play for by the time we face them so could be winnable matches.

Unlikely Birmingham or Bolton are going to win 5 of their remaining matches.

Lower West Unlikely Birmingham or Bolton are going to win 5 of their remaining matches.

And Sunderland, for example, would need 18 points from their remaining 9 games to overtake 45pts, and 7 of their games are against: Preston, Leeds, Derby, at Reading, Wolves Norwich, Fulham.

We might get to 45pts, but may not even need that.

I was going to say 46 points, another 10 from where we are now. Would leave the bottom 3 needing 16/17 points from their last 9 games to overhaul us.

Agreed it may not need quite as many as that though.

The way the bottom 3 are playing, as low as 41/42 could do it. Which would still be an abysmal points total to finish the season with

I reckon we probably need 8 more points. Hopefully a sneaky win at Norwich and the game against Sunderland will give us the majority of those points

It could happen, not will happen.

Remember you taking shots at those who suggested Hull would go on a run, and now they've picked up 10 points from 18, while we've picked up 4

If Royal-Jimmy said one of the bottom of 3 could go on a run you'd have a point

As for Atkins' lot, the sun even shines on a dog's arse occasionally, we'd have a couple more points given some crazy refereeing decisions like the one they got on Saturday

I think we are safe if we get two wins. Bottom three don't look capable of putting a run together at all.

Why would we have more points if Hull didn't get that penalty?

Absolutely ridiculous of me to suggest that Reading would have more points if Hull didn't win against Norwich City

As you're the only one suggesting that then yes, it is pretty ridiculous

40 points will be enough, we will all but secure safety with a win at Molineux tomorrow night.

you'd think if we went 9 points + GD clear with 9 games to go, we'd be have to do something really special to fcuk that up

Don't think we will win tomorrow though tbh. Can't see it. Draw at a push.

I'm too much of a fan to predict a defeat.

We could go on and grind out 4 shit draws like the home games vs. Bolton and Leeds and still be OK.

Tbh, the shambles Brum and Sunderland are I reckon there's about a 50/50 chance of us staying up with just 3 more points.

Burton would have to maintain their current six game form of a point a game for the next 10 to better that.
