You're Paul Clement - how do you set up for QPR?

by Snowflake Royal » 26 Mar 2018 08:18

Assuming the likes of Elphick and McShane are just about fit, and looking at our recent results and teamsheets, what's your 16? Your shape? Your ethos for QPR?

Conceding is a problem, defence disorganised, morale low. Fix it on the pitch.

It's for sure going to be a 4-4-2 isn't it. I might be out of the loop for some injuries now but I presume:
Mannone
Bacuna
Moore
Ilori
Gunter
Aluko
Kelly
Edwards
Barrow
Bod
Smith

Ethos. Take lots of shots. Like bucket loads of em.

Not sure about exact team selection. I would say its a clean slate for everyone and every position is up for grabs (except Barrows).
If I was Clement, I would make, keeping a clean sheet a priority. 5 at the back with a defensive mid. Let the front 4 express themselves, a bit of quick incisive passes. Barrow and Aluko hug the wings and try to catch them on the break.
If we get a draw with out conceding it gives us something to build from.

From what we know of the way he likes to play, I think it is fair to say we will likely be lining up 4-3-3 with the wide men of the front 3 tasked to stay as wide as possible to stretch the pitch.

Question it opens is do you go with 1 or 2 defensive minded midfielders to give the defence more cover. I would hope one would be Bacuna, giving us a player who can do the box to box role well. Think we may well still see JVDB but I would prefer Evans.

My team assuming one of Elphick/McShane is fit (if not swap in Ilori):

Mannone

Gunter
Elphick/McShane
Moore
Richards (is he fit? - if not Blackett)

Bacuna
Evans
Kelly

Aluko
JDB
Barrow

I would quite like that actually. I didn't know he was a 4-3-3 man.

Wouldn't stray far from that. I'd bring Elphick back in as long as he can just about run tbh. I think I'd stay 4-3-3. Aluko is a tough one - he has been so bad recently that he certainly doesn't deserve a place in the side, but how much that was Stam's fault its difficult to say. I'd consider giving Bod a go out wide, where he has played quite regularly in other sides

Mannone
Gunter Elphick Moore Richards/Blackett
Bacuna
Swift Kelly
Bod Martin/Smith/Yann Barrow

Anssi, Ilori ,Evans, Aluko ,Richards/Blackett, 2 of Martin/Yann/Smith

Actually realise he has got some pretty big calls to make - likely to be leaving a quite a few fully fit experienced players out altogether.

Can't have Blackett at left back surely? The bloke is a train wreck as a full back.

Mannone

Bacuna
Elphick/McShane
Moore
Gunter

Edwards
vdB
Kelly

Aluko
Kermorgant/JDB
Barrow

Given it'll be experience focused, probably that. Maybe Blackett in pushing Bacuna to midfield.

I'd assume he'll go for a squad of 18 rather than 16 snowflake.

The very definition of a walking lapse in concentration. It's funny how often he shows pure talent on the ball to give me hope then falls asleep on their counter attack or drifts way out of position. Poor guy.

Thing is I think he could do ok on the left side of a back 3 with Ephick and Moore alongside him. He seems reasonably capable as a CB.

Agreed. I reckon he's got a bit of PhilJones-itus about him. He's been played in too many positions so now doesn't do any of them to a high enough standard.

He's surprisingly skillful and one of the best crossers of the ball we've got. Stick him on the left wing.

Isn't that where our top scorer and (on current form) our best player plays?

Seriously  I was thinking this for an ultra defensive 442 setup to not concede.

Just play every game stifling the opposition to get 0-0 draws and the odd win.
