I reckon he'd be better than anyone we currently have, and would free up bacuna to play midfield. Can't rely on Watson - year on loan to see if he can stay fit

Reportedly due to have a medical according to this journalist, supposedly works for the BBC and has over 20,000 followers so I think there could be some truth in it https://twitter.com/gids1980/status/996 ... 36288?s=21

Interesting. I’d be pretty happy with this signing, esp this early in pre season

Can play wide mid/wing as well.

Barnsley fans do rate him.

Would be a really sensible signing by the club.

Would also show that PC is not doing a Stam and sitting around waiting to complete last minute transfers .... or about to leave to join Napoli :D

Sutekh Don't really need a right back with Gunter, Watson and Bacuna all able to play there. On top of that Ilori gives even more cover

So unless Yiadom is consistently better than all that lot and will therefore start every game what's the point?

To sell Gunter?

If he signs then I think it means the end of Gunter which would probably be a good thing for both parties. If Chris Coleman ends up at another Championship club this summer I would expect Gunter to follow.

I doubt it. Clement said he wanted a right back to give competition to Gunter, because he was basically undroppable regardless of his form.

Chris Gunter will not be here at the start of next season. I will bet you a large cod and chips on it.

another report of this happening - some bloke in the Mail:

'Bit of Champo transfer news. Believe highly-rated Barnsley full-back Andy Yiadom has agreed terms on a four-year deal with Reading and is due for a medical this morning.'

I'd be more than happy if he is a replacement for Gunter. Good signing I think

Obita may not be back for the start of the season, so I expect Gunter will continue on the left with Yiadom on the right.

Or the other way round. Yiadom has featured on the left just as much.

If true, can be a good start of whats required. We need at least 2 options per position. Healthy competition is a good thing and freshens up the RB place and would hope Gunter is up for the challenge.
Watson cannot be relied on and i think it would be stupid of the club to think otherwise. He has had a bad run with injuries of late and has taken a long time to get back to any form of fitness. I am not gettin on board the hype with him as realistically he hasn't done anything.

A right back? Does this mean the club is going to take a gamble on whether Obita will regain his form and recover from his injury in time for next season or whether Richards will make the grade?

That's one hell of a gamble as left back is a real problem position for us. Also think it means Gunter may be off. Why sign a player on a four year contract to be an understudy? Doesn't make sense.

he won't be understudy. He is better than Gunter.

The LB one is interesting. I don't think Obita will be first team ready until Christmas personally. But then if (and its a big if) he does return fully fit, he is a very good LB. Maybe a 6 month loan to fill that spot would be one way forward.

Royalwaster Would also show that PC is not doing a Stam and sitting around waiting to complete last minute transfers .... or about to leave to join Napoli :D

Stam didn't do that either:

2016-17

8 July Joseph Mendes
11 July Anssi Jaakkola
14 July Jonathan Swift
16 July Roy Beerens
29 July Yakou Meite
5 August Calum Harriott
20 August Liam Moore
22 August Tyler Blackett

2017-18

28 June Pelle Clement
14 July Jon Dadi Bodvarsson
19 July Vito Mannone
3 August Modou Barrow
13 August Leandra Bacuna
26 August Dave Edwards
29 August Sone Aluko

So basically there's 4 "last minute" signings out of 16, two of which (Moore and Aluko) were down to the selling club fcuking about for 3 weeks.
