No and some notable absentees. That being said they still had a lot of quality starters and on paper their team was easily good enough to walk the championship.

Hmm it wasn't far off from their first team.

The following players started last night that also started their final league game of last season:

Adriano
Medel
Oguzhan
Tolgay
Babel
Lens
Larin

Of the remainder:

Dorukhan - Turkish U21 international signed this summer by Besiktas
Utku - Turkish youth international
Fatih - Turkish youth international
Gonul - Turkish international played regularly for them over the past 2 seasons

So 7 out of the 11 were the first team and the remainder current Turkish (senior or youth) internationals.

Hardly a 'weakened team'..

But missing Pepe, Queresma, Vida, Negredo, Hutchinson. Obviously some were on WC duty but it still wasn’t their best team.

Absolutely still a quality team without them.

Just seen Talisca has gone to China... what a waste.

A good workout then and much better than the results against the lowly English sides in earlier friendlies.

And a stronger team than we are likely to face week in/week out in the Championship, which was partly the point of the fixture.

And equally Reading were without Bodvarsson

What makes my prediction any less than yours? It's a prediction nothing more. That in turn makes you the massive fcukwitt

How do you think your favourite side Bournemouth will do this season?

Well played.

What a pair of idiots you two are. You know my position - stop being self contained pratts looking for a reaction

As you asked though, I would hope a similar position to last year for Bournemouth. Can't expect too much with all the money being lobbed about and the lack of signings.

First game is going to be interesting. Derby have made some useful signings on paper - Jozefzoon following Mount and Wilson.

They're either going to rip teams apart or be very lightweight and bullied I think. Still our FBs likely to have their hands full

Derby got dicked by Mansfield 3-1 this week, yea I know it was only a friendly but I don't think we have too much to fear.

No, my suspicion is that at least one of Mount or Wilson will do a ‘Lewis Baker’ and not really turn up. And not really sure how much Jozefzoon has achieved for Brentford - typical inconsistent winger

But should make it an interesting game

100%. They're not that good. If they were then Rowett would have stayed. They've got a rookie manager in, in charge for his first game and bloated squad of dross and high earners.

We'll get a point.

less of a first 11 from the look of it against RK:

Starting XI | Mannone, Gunter, Clement, Rinomhota, Ilori, McShane, Aluko, Blackett, Meite, McNulty, Barrow

Subs | Ward, Yiadom, Moore, Richards, Kelly, Meyler, Swift, Loader, Edwards, Smith

No Anssi or Bacuna in either game. Evans is obviously a goner. Hopefully Edwards back in time to be sold before the transfer window

edit: 4-4-2 line up, Rinomhota and Clement in CM

couple of quick thoughts from the first 35

Meite is a handful, fast and strong. think there is a good chance he will start the season as our #9.
McNulty a bit off the pace, but a decent touch on him
Aluko has actually stayed very wide all game.
Rinomhota is a much better player than Evans. Clement looks tidy as well.
Defence looks soft. Obvs missing Moore and Yiadom from the first 11 though. Think Id rather Blackett start than Gunter at LB

Was I the only one watching this

Looked better second half when Moore and Meyler came on. Ended 0-0, couple of good saves by both keepers in the last ten. Our best chance was a Swift header which was very well saved

Anyway some more quick conclusions

Yiadom is much better than Gunter. Much more aggressive
Still struggling to create that much - bit of a worry
Pressing a massive amount more than last year. Much better movement generally
Swift is going to play further forward, just behind the striker
Played 4-4-2 most of the game which i assume is the ‘plan b’ PC has been talking about

Lots to like about that performance today, would have won if not for a worldy by the Runin keeper near the end, but we had a few scares too.

We come up as the 'best value' bet for relegation (based on 5-1 currently available) in the 'Not The Top 20' podcast - Championship Betting Preview 2018/19

Overall its a fairly good listen, with chat switching to the relegation market at around 30mins, where you will also hear i) praise for Parky and the job he did last season, and ii) praise for the "wave of positivity" that Adkins creates wherever he goes (before one of them then picks Hull for relegation regardless  ).

The hosts don't rate Clement, and don't see any creativity in our team - the difference from last season is that the clubs promoted from League One are seen as less likely to struggle than Burton and Barnsley did.
