BFTG - Bristol City

by SCIAG » 03 Nov 2018 18:09

What a game.

We started really well and took a deserved lead. Kelly took really well to a defensive role, spraying passes around and letting Bacuna and Rinomhota do the donkey work. Great ball in for the goal which Meite took well. Then conceded a soft goal where Walker could have done better. Faded a bit, then pulled it together after McCleary came on. Kelly scores an excellent goal and it was very frustrating to concede again - why couldn't we clear it?

Second half was nervy without a big striker to hold it up, but we strung together some good moves playing proper football. Bacuna's goal was excellently worked.

Blackett had a brilliant game, and Swift and Gunter added a bit of steel when they came on.

Good debut from Rinomhota- I'm not a big fan but he shielded the ball well and kept possession in some tight spots, despite his limitations.

MOTM Blackett, narrowly over Kelly.

Blackett... good game.....

His usual bright start for ten mins followed by one single error (the first goal) that then typically drains the confidence away. Shocking defending today including a hapless Moore other than some timely headers. A great and much needed win but we will concede like no tomorrow if this keeps up. Much better from Kelly my man of the match.

You can't tell me that wasn't bloody brilliant.

Really good persistence and fight. Kept their heads second half, good game management and carried a threat just about all game.

Walker 7 kicking a bit weak and a bit flappy, but did enough, good saves.
Yiadom 7 defended well and pushed out well
Blackett 8 lots of heart in mouth moments with his risky skills, but also best laugh out loud moment, good defending and crosses
Moore 9 imperious
O'Shea 8 solid and calm, bit loose in distribution
Rinomhota 9 MotM fantastic game so calm and controlled, keep that up and we have yet another great graduate
Kelly 8 worked so hard and kept us moving, slowed it down and kept possession well around the ever deadly 50 - 60 minute mark
Bacuna 8 bit quiet and sloppy tonight, but you can't ask for more than scoring the winner
Barrow 7 about his best performance this season, not at last season's best though
Baldock 7 struggled a bit when leading the line, unlucky a few times but worked them hard.
Meite 8 bit of a lump, but he fecking goes for it and frightens defences

McCleary 8 very good job
Swift 7 some good outballs and must have worked hard though didn't notice him a lot
Gunter 8 really solid defenisve display to help us see it out

Clement - great job

Officials - shithouses - gave almost everything to Brizzle.

Best game in ages. oxf*rd loved it, so tense. oxf*rd knows what my blood pressure is right now!

Though o shea had a decent game

Roughly:

7s: O Shea, Kelly, McCleary, Meite, Bacuna
6s: Walker, Blackett, Rinomhota, Baldock, Swift, Gunter
5s: Moore, Yiadom, Barrow

Was an enjoyable and entertaining game. We definitely look like scoring goals, and unfortunately don’t look like keeping a clean sheet in the slightest

Still massively missing Ezatolahi or another big solid defensive CM, and both Bod and Meite being injured really isn’t great either

Another massive game vs Ipswich up next. Could properly cut them adrift

Terrible defending and goalkeeping but a win is a win. We got a bit of excitement too which was certainly welcome.

I know people obvs raised eyebrows at Meite’s 4 year deal, but the boy has serious potential- and scored 4 in 4 now as well

Thought he looked excellent in that first 20 before the injury took its toll

Made hard work of beating the worst team I have seen at the Mad Stad this season.
I thought we still struggled defensively. Having said that O Shea looks better that Tiago

A few shaky moments but it would have been a travesty if we hadn't won that.

I would say so. For all their smug gifs and idiot fans, they had a pretty awful team

Good assessment.....just seen the stats. Not pretty for us......They had 21 shots to our 8 and had only 3 shots on target to their 7.
They also had 6 corners to our 1.
Not impressive but 3 points is 3 points and it keeps us in touch.
Ipswich next......we have to win that...its an absolute must.

Good to see the supporters get behind the team today. The atmosphere was much better. An important win

Walker 7 Several important saves. Distribution poor
Blackett 6 Gave me kittens trying to do too much on the ball but lovely skills on occasions
Moore 6 Ok but part of a back four that is simply too vulnerable
O’Shea 6 Strong in the air but doesn’t offer much else
Yiadom 5 Passing poor out of defence.
Kelly 7 Scored a peach and better around the pitch
Bacuna 6 Took his goal well but very frustrating at times as we lost momentum when he was in the ball
Rinomhota 7 Worked hard and tidy on the ball. Did well
Barrow 6 Not at his best and did an Aluko by drifting inside far too often but he got an assist
Baldock 6 Not effective as a centre forward but ok on the flank
Meite 7 Took his goal well and a real handful
McCleary 7 I thought he looked sharper today and made some decent breaks
Swift 6 Did ok and made one good clearance leading to a counter attack
Gunter 6 Useful contribution when he came on

Now let’s do Ipswich and start moving upwards

Swift’s pass certainly wasn’t a ‘clearance’. That was a top notch through-ball

...and only 0.5 xG vs 3.2 for Bristol.

Continuing to pick up points from performances like this will not continue

The one where Baldock got fouled?

100% that was a pass
