Drenthe - Would you have him back???

by UpThePrem » 21 Dec 2014 21:40

Lots of talk on here and other forums about whether we should or shouldn't give Drenthe another go here. What do you think?

Personally i'd give him another go. Can't be much worse than Blackman or HRK.

sadly only one person wanted him here, and the sooner he goes the better, we could never afford him. and it was an ego signing by a previous owner, look we have an ex Real Madrid player, how big are we?

Drenthe is a fat, arrogant, disinterested and ill-disciplined waste of space. So he's my kind of guy 8)

Drenthe for 5 minutes every game > Blackman for 90.

No way, let him have a bit of company by sending the likes of Guthrie in the same direction too!

Too disruptive in training and no end product on match days. A long with Pogr£bnyak, they're the most expensive waste's of space we've ever had here.

Yes, the expectation of him may be doing something wide left > knowing Obita, Blackman, HRK will do nothing

Would rather have him than either HRK or Blackman, and he's probably not on that much more money than HRK.

What's his wages like?

If low then maybe as he does seem to have some effect to games and at least lifts the crowd.

If high wages, then get rid

If Alex Pearce welcomes him back then so will I, but he certainly won't get any contract extension.

I'd welcome him back if he has the right attitude with Clarke.

I was at the Fulham v Sheff Weds game on Saturday, and Drenthe came on for the visitors at half time. He looked as out of shape as the day he left Reading, and as frighteningly inconsistent on the ball. Couple of good through balls and to be fair to him he was chasing down Fulham players and the ball much more than we ever saw in a Reading shirt. They played him as a right-winger, and he hugged the touchline, beat his man a few times, fell over his own feet a few times.

As said above - maybe he could get better under Clarke. Who knows. File under Balotelli.

I would take him over Robson -Kanu in his current state.

They epitomise everything that went wrong with us.

I'd be tempted to have a look if I was Steve Clarke given how little attacking options we had on the bench last Saturday

He does bring some attacking threat however little we played him. Personally, I would give him a couple of games through January and if he doesn't perform, just offload.

Any manager with his head screwed on is going to want to assess all players available to him, especially someone who is ex Real Madrid. I'm sure Clarke will be fully aware of Drenthe's bad reputation but bringing him back once his loan expires and taking a look at him before making a decision would be the smart thing to do.

The smart thing to do would be to ask Hammond, Dolan and co.

We have to give him a go. We cant expect to shift his wages off our books just like that. Doesn't work like that.

Err. hang on, we can't expect to shift his wages off our books by loaning / selling him to Wednesday who want him and are already paying a proportion of his wages, so instead we should play him and pay them all ourselves despite his abject failure here?

Shift this guy off the books asap.

Get rid of Pog and Murray. Too many wasters on high wages. Let's go back to signing players with appetite to improve. Not players who have an appetite for kebabs.
