Who would you have?? Ex reading players??

by linkenholtroyal » 21 May 2015 10:59

With talk of mills and le fondre being available it got me thinking if we could have 2 ex reading players that are still playing back at reading now who would you have?? I'd have long and gylfi. (Closely followed on current form by cureton)

Ian Royal Gylfi and Sidwell.
+1

Although I'd also add McCarthy and Le Fondre onto the list.

Cureton and Little in their prime, but not at this stage in their careers.

Those that are realistic then I'd have Sidwell back in a heart-beat. Perhaps even Stephen Hunt for a season. For what he lacks in quality he makes up for in effort, which is a lot more than HRK.

Noel Hunt is on a free, he isn't the answer to our goal scoring issues but it would be an improvement and get the right player alongside him and he will get a fair few assists.

Another +1 for Gylfi and Sidwell although I'd take Long instead of Sidwell.

Otherwise I'd quite like the HRK of 2011-12 back

You have a thing for Noel? You keep mentioning his availability. Massive no from me. Doesn't score nearly enough, too injury prone.

Sorry but anyone who says we should bring Stephen Hunt back isn't allowed to criticise anyone else.

It's got to be Gylfi.

One of the few players we've had recently with real class.

His goal on Saturday was one that we're so unlikely to see from this team- the only one similar I can think of recently was Robson-Kanu against Derby in the cup.

One touch, then a quick change of body shape to place the ball in the bottom corner.

Other than that, I'd love to see Kebe again. He played his best football here and was always a threat. I also thought he looked pretty comfortable in the Prem and played a big part in some of our rare wins. I don't think any manager other than McDermott can get him to replicate that form, though.

And the second you saw the pass coming you knew exactly what he'd do... touch across his body and bend to the far corner. Goal.

He is without doubt the best I've ever seen for us.

McCarthy, Bertrand, Baird, Sidwell, Sigurdsson, Long. Please. I don't want two. Possibly S.Hunt because anything is better than Kanu.

I still remember his last goal for us at Leicester. Pure class.

I'm getting misty eyed.

--------------------McCarthy---------------------
Rosenior--Morrison--Mariappa--Bertrand
---------------Baird---Sidwell--------------------
Antonio-----------Sigurdsson--------Drenthe
---------------------Austin-------------------------
Subs: Hamer, Halford, Golbourne, Henry, Wickham, Long, Murray

Not sure Kebe counts as "active", otherwise put him on the wing and drop Wickham from the bench.

Bit light in midfield (Bartley and D'Ath are the only vaguely sensible choices I can think of) and too many strikers (Austin, Long, Murray, Wickham, Afobe, Le Fondre, Ji, Hunt and Doyle are all people I would take back here - admittedly none are both realistic and better than Pog) but I think that team would cruise to promotion. Morrison's the weak link but he's good enough. If Drenthe wasn't performing then there's always McAnuff...

He scored 39 Goals for Reading at a goal every 244 minutes = one goal every 2.33 games

That isn't a bad record for a second striker, but when you add in his 27 assists
you get a goal or assist every 144 minutes

In just The Championship for RFC he got 31 Goals and 17 assists

A goal every 235 minutes; a goal/assist every 152 minutes.

For comparison Pog is a goal every 248 mins for RFC in The Championship; a goal/assist every 189 minutes

Bikey and Kebe.
Not for any footballing skills, just for the sheer entertainment factor. :D

GK- Federici
RB- Rosenior
LB - Harding
CB-Morrison
CB- Sonko
RM-Drenthe
LM-Sig
CM-Sidwell
CM-Matejovsky
ST-Long
ST-Doyle

Wish we had brought in Doyle when he was available although even he said he wouldn't have gone back to the club.

Kebe on a free. Still only 31. Thats about it as we can't afford some , (Long, Gylfi Sidders)). Others too old now (Hunts) and others didn't really fit Mills Le Fondre although the latter might suit Clarkes tactics.
