New Football League highlights Show

by WoodleyRoyal » 17 Jun 2015 16:03

Highlights to be shown in primetime Saturday slot

Channel 5, the new home for The Football League’s weekly highlights show, can confirm details of their coverage this season following the fixtures announcement, with their new show Football League Tonight.

Football League Tonight will be shown in a live primetime 9pm slot on Channel 5 every Saturday of the season from Saturday 8th August. The rights have been signed to the channel to broadcast a 90 minute weekly Football League highlights show for the next three years.

Every Goal. Every Week

Each show will feature the top match footage from all three divisions of the Sky Bet Football League and will include every single goal from matches across the board.

In addition, Channel 5 will also broadcast three one-hour shows covering the end of season Sky Bet Play-Offs across all three divisions, plus eight one-hour highlights shows covering the action from each round of the Capital One Cup.

As well as every goal across the divisions, the show will be jam packed with high profile names. Players and managers will be encouraged to join us in the studio each week, or take part in the conversation via Skype and Facetime. A vibrant studio audience of genuine fans will also give their opinions. No lengthy punditry, no football clichés, this is football on 5 at its most exciting.

Executive Producer for Channel 5 Mark Sharman said: “Channel 5 are committed to bringing a quality, innovative football highlights show to Saturday night primetime TV. The 9pm slot finally gives the Sky Bet Football League the coverage and respect the fans deserve on terrestrial television.”

Sunset+Vine, the multi award-winning independent TV sports production and media company, is producing Football League Tonight Show on Channel 5.

I for one am very happy there has been a shake up of the programme steve claridge was doing my head in. This could be very good but as its channel 5 it also has just as much chance for being utterly shit. Adverts though, that will be annoying, and before the naysayers point out this should be in general football  oxf*rd you it involves the team

It'll be a nice way to see the goals on a slightly different show.

I usually see them on SSN before anyway.

Pros:

No more bumbling batty brigade that is Manish Basin, Garth Crooks and Steve Claridge.... Especially Steve-I've-played-for-every-club-with-a-pitch-Claridge.

Cons:
A group of replica shirt wearing virgins with nothing better to do on a Saturday night than be a member of audience for something you could watch on TV.

15mins longer than the Football League Show, might get an extra 30 seconds in our highlights if we're lucky.

Oh god no, just we want to hear  . And as for no football clichés....

And to top it all there's adverts every 12/15 minutes.

This show will definitely not be 90 minutes.

They'll be 30 minutes of adverts in it.

I suppose that's infinitely better then have Steve Claridge boring everyone to death with his in depth analysis.

I think this part is worse

or take part in the conversation via Skype and Facetime

Have you ever seen a show do this, at the moment - the picture is shit, the conversation is delayed and the person has shit internet and it freezes/cuts out most of what they're saying.

So yeah, i'll record it but at least i can watch it the same night instead of the next morning

Yes, that's the worst of it. I can't listen to 606 anymore as it's stuffed with morons regurgitating stuff they've been spoon fed 5 minutes earlier.

I'll quite miss Leroy, but thank god Claridge will be off screen.

It's the one thing ITV got right with the Football League Show back in the 90's, one feature game, a couple of extended highlights and the goals from every other game. No studio waffle, no replica kit wearing mongs, just the goals and the links recorded pitchside from the feature game. Simple, to the point and it worked.

With every goal being shown and with the lack of signings so far, We could have alot of coverage due to goals conceded.

1.5 hours for three leagues isn't a lot

its on channel 5, late at night, why not give each league an hour. what else could they possibly have to put on at that time that anyone is going to watch?

It's not 1.5 hours, it'll be about 1.25 hours after the adverts are taken out, so that'll work out at about 30 mins for Division 2 and about the same amount of time for Divisions 3 and 4 plus 15 minutes inane yak and punditry from whoever is fronting it and the wonderful audience of fans
