Thailand Tour

by K.URZ13 » 30 Jun 2015 05:08

Who's going? What seats did you buy for the game 500, 400 or 200 baht? and does anyone want to meet before the game for beer?

Hello K, I'll be going of course. Will probably go for the 500 baht seat which seems to be under a roof but will go with the flow.

Where do you suggest for a beer? Nearest decent pubs would probably be around BTS Nana or Saladaeng.

So to confirm it's on the 8th July 7pm local time at the National Stadium in Bangkok. . Gates open at 5pm.

OK 78royal, i like the sound of a roof, i'll get the 500 tickets too.

As for beer, i agree with you. I suggest The Clubhouse on Sukhimvit Soi 23. Decent location + beer and food. I watched the FA Cup games there with a couple of other RFC fans.

Clubhouse is a bit far from the stadium, if we go to Silom road there's a couple of Irish pubs near Saladaeng BTS station, which is only 2 stops away from the stadium. Other suggestions welcome.

So any final decision on meeting place? I fly out from Heathrow tomorrow.
Where do I get ticket from? Do I have to go up to the Stadium to get one in advance?

Thai Ticket Major have a stand in most of the major shopping complexes where you can buy tickets. If not the stadium is 40,000+, not sure if it will all be open but can't see it selling out.

That seems really expensive for a game in Thaliand.

I haven't been to one for a few years, but it was more like 100 baht to get in.

I'm sadly not at this one, having only started a new job last week, but if you want bars, and don't mind the odd waitress asking politely about being your "special friend" for the evening, Soi Nana is a fair easy choice. It's virtually nothing but bars for about 200 metres.

There are some "real" pubs about, but they tend to be expensive compared to the other bars, and beer from back home will often cost as much as it does here.

Then again, if you afford to go to Thailand for a pre-season friendly, the price of beer isn't likely to be a deciding factor in anything.

Anyone in Bangkok tomorrow, who fancies taking in a local game, could venture down to Thai Port FC, who play a few hundred metres south of the Queen Sirikit Convention Centre metro side, on the other side of a rather whiffy market.

Muang Thong Utd are also playing, but they are a bit further out to the north, and less easy to get to.

Thanks for the info. Looking at the map you have linked to that area is pretty close to my Hotel so will be very convenient for me.

BBC Berkshire have said so several times in the week, so it's a pretty fair assumption.

It's also supposedly being shown live on Thai TV in which case there is genuine stream potential for those bored at work

Arse. I now have a meeting on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi - during bloomin' Ramadamadingdong - so won't be making it to BKK....

Soi Nana is the place but mind the chicks with dicks ... but I'm looking forward to Crawley to make up for it.

Squad: Bond, Al-Habsi; McShane, Ferdinand, Keown; Gunter, Long; Obita, Griffin; Williams, Norwood, Quinn, Akpan, Kuhl, Tshibola, L. Kelly; HRK, Blackman, Fosu, Taylor, Owusu; Pogrebnyak, Sa, Samuel, Novakovich

Cooper, Cox, and Stacey are injured whilst Hector and McCleary are on international duty. Craig Tanner is the big omission and it doesn't look good for Stephen Kelly either.

Interesting to see only three centre backs selected. They must be confident of Ferdinand's fitness.

The club are warning us not to look into squad numbers or the non-selection of new signings, which probably means Quinn and Sa will be on the fringes.

Kelly is deciding his future still so as technically he's not signed to anyone at the moment it's not surprising he's been left out.
