Team for Burnley (h)

by Sutekh » 11 Feb 2016 13:36

Could well have some injury issues Saturday. Vydra, Kanu and Williams are all rated only 50/50.

To be honest given that the FA Cup is all there is left to play for I'd choose not to risk any of them and start with...

Al Habsi

Gunter
Obita
McShane
Ferdinand

Quinn
McLeary
John
Norwood

Piazon
Cormorant

Subs

Bond
Hector
Cox
Evans
Liburd
Cooper
Novakovich

I want to see some continuity, and I actually liked the look of the team against Wolves. If not the execution. Norwood was uncharacteristically sloppy and McCleary was clearly not back to full speed.

So same team barring lack of availability. If Vydra's out - Rakkels in if Rakkels isn't fit enough then Piazon, if HRK's out - Quinn in, if Williams is out - Quinn in (unless he's in for HRK in which case Evans).

It looks as if Rakels is not yet ready to start according to Brian so it probably means Piazon and Kermorgant up front with Rakels and John available as impact subs. Norwood, Quinn and McCleary will be in the midfield together with Evans or we could try Obita out wide (again) and play Taylor at the back.

It's a good sign that we can field a decent side even with all our injuries (and it looks like Tish will be out for the season!) but I'd take a point against Burnley at the moment!

Williams is only 50/50 injury-wise and Rakkels has said he's only capable of 25-30 minutes.

Hmm, on paper this should be a strong(ish) team, certainly at the back, BUT ...

Back 4 - strong, and most of the mix we have played
Mid 4 - ok, but John cant do 90 mins (now or never), I don't think McCleary is fully fit, what are the options?
Front - where is Rakels?

Rakels not fit enough for 90 apparently. Should have put him on the subs bench, just forgot he existed ! Idea is to start with a team that's reasonably balanced so start with John and introduce Rakels in 2nd half when John's knackered.

Delboy What about FOSU on the bench or start!

U21s not doing well and his loan wasn't a resounding success from what I recall.

One good 45 minutes and a nice preseason don't make him a saviour.
