Previously had a good record in League One but has never made the step up to Championship. Could well be a good short term option to try and get promoted.

I didn't realise he is 30 already. Depending on cost, could be a decent option.

Son of Andy Cole, 6 foot 1 and 30 years old, last notable spell was 34 goals in 115 league appearances at Barnsley

Is a 1 in 4 striker which fits in with the general :| goalscorers Reading seem able to attract these days. But his experience would be more than useful for the club.

Yeah but that includes a shite season in the Championship when Barnsley struggled and got relegated. In League One he was 34 in 91, a far more respectable total.

Let's hope he was not an impressionable young lad in the stands at Elm Park hearing the South Bank serenade his dad in the cup tie against Man Ure back in the day...

Looking specifically at League One appearances and goals he has 65 strikes in 247 appearances which is still around 1 in 4 (1 in 3.8 to be exact).

Agreed Barnsley was the best spell of his career managing 33 goals in 91 apps which brings him right up to 1 goal every 2.75 games so if we got the Barnsley version we’d be doing brilliantly.

He averages a goal every 236 mins in League 1. A goal every 2.5 games, add in assists and he has been involved in a goal every 187 minutes.

Never quite rated him for some reason but those are solid numbers.

Big, quick and experienced, three things we lack up front. 1 in 3 would be 15 goals a season so given the goal threat in our midfield, would be a more than adequate return.

There's a thread about him on the Barnsley forum and it's approx 70:30 in favour of resigning him if they had a chance. Apparently on £7.5k a week at WBA.

There's a lot to like about this rumour. Not an exciting signing but could be a shrewd one.

WCBAP but then decent strikers don’t come cheap and if you’re going to stretch a financial point somewhere then it’s going to be for a such a beast. Interestingly WBA is the most southerly team he’s played for so far.

£7.5k is slightly above average for League 1 (bang on average if you include Birmingham and Wrexham from last year) but he's being paid that in the Championship.

I doubt he'd command that in League 1, especially if Port Vale are the only other club interested.

I guess he could sit out the last year of his contract at WBA but not sure what a 31-32 year old who's not started a match for nigh on 2 years commands in wages at that stage.

If we offered him £5-6k a week and first choice I reckon he'd take it.
