Premiership Pre-Season (hopefully)

by ayjaydee » 20 Jan 2007 09:46

As befits our new status RFC are looking beyond obscure Swedish 4th Division teams for the next pre-season tour.

Nigel Howe on BBCRB this morning said they are looking at using their Korean connections to organise something or, as an alternative, the US of A.

ayjaydee Korean connections

Jamie Cureton?

Anyhoo, sounds good - especially a US tour. DC United obviously stands out. Could also do some extra scouting while we're out there.

Get your mum to take you on a deal where the kid goes free

I think for what could be a one-off opportunity, it'd be worth the fares. I'll see what they do because it could be my summer holiday planned.

ayjaydee Nigel Howe on BBCRB

You can hear the BBCRB Recording till it's replaced next Friday evening. He talks about the 2007/08 pre-season tour about 25 minutes into the recording. The question was asked by 'John in Newbury' about a possible US tour rather than Sweden. Nigel said they might change and have looked at the Far East where the club has connections in Korea and Malaysia.

The key question though is this, will Legend be going?

I vote "alternative"!

At the current rate of exchange of well nigh two US dollars to the GB pound, the only "problem" would be me crossing over and trying to manage not to spend my life savings on a match ticket and a night's lodging!

I asked the team publicist guy basically the same thing about six weeks ago during the Friday thingy, and if he knew anything at all, he wasn't saying --so the mere acknowledgement of it has to constitute "progress" at any rate.

Plenty of purpose-built stadia to host such a tour --no need to play at Giants Stadium, Soldier Field or the L.A. Memorial Coliseum à la Barça, Celtic, Bayern, Real, Milan or ManGoo, who always sell out the NFL venues-- and the whole thing culminating in a meeting with the MLS All-Stars on the first weekend in August would be the sensible route.

Sounds to me, though, like this isn't fully in the works yet and won't happen next summer --but one always keeps hope aLOLive...

You'd better hope it isn't.

USA would be good for Marcus and Bobby.

Do you think we'd play LA Galaxy?
I've got a few good Tom Cruise chants ......

Start saving now as a UEFA cup spot may be on the cards, especially if the Cups are won by teams above us, thereby giving them a UEFA Cup spot and allowing them to pass up the league placing UEFA Cup spot to teams below.
