Back from the game - Coventry (H)

by T.R.O.L.I. » 01 Dec 2008 22:37

First and foremost - farking cold!!!!!

Happy with the three points and with the performance in general - a bit stop-start at times but Coventry's formation seemed to cause us problems until our second goal went in. Don't remember Marcus having much to do other than pick the ball out of his net. Last 20 minutes was dull but the game was already won.

On a slightly different note - great atmosphere for the first 10 minutes and then the stewards chucked their oar in and ruined it. At one time there were EIGHT stewards / tangos at the top of Y25/6 despite their being no malice in any of the chants. Far too OTT IMO and time for someone to have a word with these jobsworths.

Roll on Oakwell - with another rendition of "My girlfriend's bra..."

Sadly this looks like the way things are going. God forbid the tradition of singing at a match.

My girlfiends bra....

Was only watching on Sky this week but post 20 mins - damn what an improvement. Makes me incredibly annoyed I got last weekend off work :(.

In reference to the noise - Number 13 sounded great all game to me and were complimented a fair few times on Sky.

Gutted Nunt didnt get a dodgy hatrick, although 2 jammy goals is good enough.

Someone being wheeled out wrapped up in a PINK blanket with an oxygen mask on.
Seemed to be ok.

Good win.

We're sitting nicely on the shoulder of the front two waiting for the famous Wolves end of season slump and Birmingham to finally stop grinding out cheeky wins. All without really stringing a good run together yet. Hopefully we can have a good December and push on from there again, rather than slump like we have done a lot previously.

A nice little cushion between us and 4th too. Not great, but good enough right now.

Wasn't the best of games but we did a professional job and got the deserved 3 points.

Just got home and am thawing out now.

Not the best performance overall but 3 good points.

USA 6-- untroubled apart from excellent unstoppable free kick
Rosenior 8 - excellent tonight
Ingi - 8 - solid all night
Duberrry - 6 - good to see him back but a few dodgy moments due to lack of matches no doubt
Armstrong 7 - steady game again - really consistent
S.Hunt - 9 - my MOTM - after a few poor performances he ran and ran tonight and another assist
Harper - 6 - largely anonymous first half - came more into it second half
Cisse -7 - very good again - really looking like a midfield general more each week
Kebe - 8 - good game for me and end product improving week by week
Doyle- 6- marked out of it tonight but always tries hard and created space for Hunt
N.Hunt - 8 - another good performance - two slightly fortuitous goals

Long - 6- ran a lot - which to be fair is probably what he was asked to do
Gunnar - 6 - not much time to impress
Henry - 6 - a few excellent crosses

Number 13 - fairly quiet at times but not too bad considering there were so few
Ref- 8 - one of the better refs we have had to be fair although there were not many difficult decisions. Thought he let them physically overpower Doyle too much. Should have had some more free kicks.

Great thing for me (being London based) about it being monkeys-cold and televised, is that the M4 traffic and the parking were a doddle both ways. I'm happy to trade half empty and atmosphere-less for that.

Game was, well, so so. Lovely team goal sarnied between two scruffs. Harper dire, though improved a little later on. Doobs steady. Doyle put the miles in, got no breaks. Wingers patchy but too good for Cov. Nice to see five mins of Henry, his third cross was a beauty.

Cov pretty but toothless, which seems to describe quite a few Championship teams.

Why was Fox booed? I missed his crime...

This was quite pathetic tonight. On a cold night, folk warming themselves up by creating a surprisingly decent atmosphere only for the Happiness Patrol, led by the grey haired wannabe bouncer in the baseball cap, to wade on in and eyeball anyone who dared to stand up and join in. With barely 300 Coventry fans gathered a fair distance away there was no hint of any trouble whatsoever. Clive Doyle 1-0 Reading fans.

Fox was the one that scored the free kick.
What was the Hunt scuffle about?
Hard to see from KK Y20 :(

just thawing out;

Performance was a bit strange, they scored, and we looked like the away team, soaking pressure, then hitting on the break.

USA 6- Didn't do a lot
Rosey 9 - Once he was in the swing, he was our mom, a great performance.
Ingi - 7 - A good performance but lack of partnership with Duberry showed a few times.
Duberrry - 7 - Good perfromance, but see above
Armstrong 8 - Good game, and linked up well, bloddy hell he's quick.
S.Hunt - 7 - Ran and ran, sometimes with end product, still looks class apart.
Harper - 7 - Professional performance, but got a bit bossed in the first 20
Cisse -8 - Solid, looks better each time he plays,no idea why he was subbed.
Kebe - 6 - Normally would have marked Jimmy with a 1, as he has no consistent end product, he had some good runs tonight, but still looks a little uninterested, good link up with Rosey
Doyle- 6- Tried hard, quality when he gets the ball.
N.Hunt - 8 - Runs around a lot, likes to mix it up too, good poaching.

Long - 6- Ran a lot, didn't see the incident where he ended on his backend
Gunnar - 5 - I've said it before, he's not the fellow for this team, a great player, but too slow and ponderous.
Henry - 6 - Pushed off the ball a few times, but only just starting and it was fecking cold. Some good link up play and crosses.

Ref- 2 - Gave some strange decisions until the last 20-25 when he decided he'd used his whistle too much and stopped !!

Good result, but fecking cold.

Farking cold, kid in front of me had 7 layers on Looked like Mr Michelin

USA 7 - Only kicked the ball out once and didn't really have much to do apart from the free kick
Rosenior 9- MOM for me tonight quality with Kebe best moment he played the ball miles in front and beat their left back for pace to get to there
Ingi - 8 - Solid all night
Duberrry - 7 - Great to see back his experience shines through.
Armstrong 8 - Quality pace again from our FB's
S.Hunt - 8 - Ran all game as usual
Harper - 6 - poor first half better second would be nice to see him tackle though
Cisse -8 - Good again but doesn't deserve to be taken off.
Kebe - 8 - Linked well with Rosenoir
Doyle- 6- Played out of the game by the defence but made room for NHUNT
N.Hunt - 8 - Good game too scrambled goals TBF
Long - 6- Ran around to keep warm mostly
Gunnar - 6 - Didn't have much time
Henry - 7 - a few excellent crosses but needs more pace to rise to the championship me thinks

Squared up to NHunt and really had a go then after he was booed he reacted to the crowd so got booed even more if cov would have scored again he would have defiantly celebrated in front of us.

Rosenior had a superb game tonight.

I'm sure even his knockers will agree. Magnificent going forward, sound defensively and crossing that was an absolute delight.

Freezing and the 2nd half was 'dull and uninspiring' to be honest, not a game to tape and watch over and over again but Reading did a steady job once they got level. Different way of playing, once we gave it away (happened a lot!) we would go as Ozy says to almost an away side performance, instantly 8 players in two banks of 4 behind the ball, almost saying to Coventry 'break us down'. They passed it neatly and tidily much better than we did but they didn't have that killer final ball. Coventry were your typical Championship side, huff and puff, neat passing with zero end product.

As for Reading defensively solid but no where near good enough in posession, 1 moment of quality and that was the 2nd goal which was a lovely move. Our midfield was poor throughout, Cisse and Kebe were the better of the two so obviously it was them that went off! Harper I thought was abysmal in comparison, although he improved towards the end of the game. Typical S Hunt game, 90% perspiration 10 % inspiration. Our best outlet was down the right where rosenior and Kebe caused them problems for most of the evening. Job done tonight but must do better.

Ratings wise

Hahners 6
Rosenior 8 MOTM
Duberry 7
Ivar 7
Armstrong 8
Kebe 7
S Hunt 6
Harper 4
Cisse 7
N Hunt 7
Doyle 6
